This is a senior-level post designed for experienced neonatal registrars (ST3–ST5 or equivalent) with substantial experience in UK Level 3 neonatal intensive care.

### Main duties of the job

The post holder will function at a senior decision-making level, leading the management of critically unwell neonates, supporting junior trainees, and contributing to clinical leadership within a high-acuity tertiary neonatal service. This role is not suitable for junior-level applicants or those without significant UK neonatal registrar experience.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This post will be based at Denmark Hill Site and it is suitable for an experienced neonatal registrar (ST6-8 or equivalent) with MRCPCH or equivalent and substantial experience in a Level 3 neonatal intensive care unit in the UK. The post holder should be confident managing critically unwell neonates, including extremely preterm infants and babies with complex respiratory, haemodynamic and surgical needs, and contributing to senior clinical decision-making within a multidisciplinary team. Opportunities to undertake research under the supervision of Professor Greenough and her team may also arise for interested candidates.

- The objective of this post in neonatology include;
- Provide independent senior clinical decision-making
- Lead resuscitation and stabilisation of critically unwell neonates
- Manage extreme prematurity and complex surgical cases
- Supervise and support junior trainees and the wider MDT
- Contribute to service delivery, patient flow, and escalation decisions

## Person Specification

### Research

**Essential**

- Experience of conducting or supporting clinical research.

**Desirable**

- Relevant research experience in one or more aspects of Paediatrics and/or neonatology e.g. degrees, prizes, awards, distinctions, presentations)
- Publication of relevant review articles or case reports in peer reviewed journal.

### Teaching

**Essential**

- Experience of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and exam preparation.

**Desirable**

- Teaching qualification or simulation faculty experience

### Clinical Skiills

**Essential**

- Neonatal Life Support (NLS) – current certification
- Competent in neonatal procedures:
- intubation (including difficult intubation)
- umbilical line insertion
- long lines
- chest drain insertion

**Desirable**

- NLS/APLS instructor
- Experience in neonatal echocardiography, haemodynamics and/or POCUS

### Training and Experience

**Essential**

- Minimum 4 - 5 years’ postgraduate paediatrics experience, including2, 4
- At least 24 months working at registrar level in tertiary Neonatology 2, 4
- Demonstrated experience in:
- Management of extreme prematurity (22 - 26 weeks)
- Advanced respiratory support (HFOV, iNO, complex ventilation)
- Neonatal resuscitation leadership
- Evidence of independent decision-making at registrar level

**Desirable**

- At least 12 months of experience in a tertiary surgical neonatal unit in the UK

### Management and Leadership

**Essential**

- Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams.

**Desirable**

- Management course and / or qualification.

### Audit & quality improvement

**Essential**

- Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit and quality improvement.

**Desirable**

- Evidence of active participation in audit and Quality improvement projects

### Qualifications/Higher Qualifications

**Essential**

- Registerable medical qualification. Full MRCPCH
- Full registration with GMC with License to Practice at the time of the interview.

**Desirable**

- Other higher degree or diploma (e.g., MD).
- CESR pathway experience
- On GMC Specialist Register or within 12–24 months of CCT
