This role is for a middle-grade fellow to join the paediatric emergency department with a one-day per week commitment to a specialist interest in simulation, trauma or ambulatory care. The post holder will work with the Lead for Simulation for Paediatrics and Child Health, the Lead for Simulation across the trust, the education team and technical support staff. They will work closely with the Lead for Paediatric Major Trauma, the lead for the Paediatric Emergency Department and all the Major Trauma Consultants ### Main duties of the job This post is suitable for a junior doctor at middle grade level, interested in advancing their training in paediatric emergency medicine and skills in paediatric trauma/simulation/paediatric ambulatory care. The successful candidate will also develop their administrative skills in a teaching hospital environment. The post holder will work with the Lead for Simulation for Paediatrics and Child Health, the Lead for Simulation across the trust, the education team and technical support staff. Also work closely with the Lead for Paediatric Major Trauma, the lead for the Paediatric Emergency Department and all the Major Trauma Consultants and work closely with the Clinical Lead for Ambulatory Paediatrics and the wider multidisciplinary team. Duties Specialist interest: One day per week dedicated to either trauma, simulation or ambulatory care. Responsibilities include to provide a service for Child Health, This includes all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the Care Group. - Shared responsibility with the other colleagues for providing 24 hours, 7 days a week cover for the Unit on a rota basis. Responsible also for covering colleagues’ periods of annual leave and short-term sickness. - Contribution to audit and clinical governance programmes. - Responsible for outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed with the Care Group management team, Contribute to the Care Group research interests in accordance with the Trust’s R&D framework. - Work in conjunction with clinical and other professional colleagues to ensure that the productivity of staff within the specialty is maintained and their job satisfaction is enhanced. This may include involvement in the appraisal process for peers and/or junior colleagues The post-holder has an important responsibility for, and contribution to make to, infection control and must be familiar with the infection control and hygiene requirements of this role. The post holder would work closely with the Lead for Paediatric Major Trauma, the lead for the Paediatric Emergency Department, all the Major Trauma Consultants, and work closely with the Clinical Lead for Ambulatory Paediatrics and the wider multidisciplinary team. ### Applicant requirements You must have appropriate UK professional registration. This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service. ## Person Specification ### Research **Desirable** - Experience of clinical research. Relevant research experience in one or more aspects of general paediatrics Publication of relevant review articles or case reports Evidence of a Quality Improvement Project. ### Teaching **Essential** - Experience of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and exam preparation. **Desirable** - Teaching skills course / qualification. ### Registration **Essential** - Full registration with GMC with License to Practice. ### Administration **Essential** - Experience in day to day organisation of multidisciplinary services. ### 1. Qualifications **Essential** - Registrable medical qualification. MRCPCH Part 1 and Part 2 or equivalent. **Desirable** - MRCPCH. MSc or higher award. ### Training and Experience **Essential** - Able to demonstrate competences expected of a new ST4 level paediatric trainee or above. A minimum of 6 months neonatal experience. APLS or equivalent. Level 3 Safeguarding certificate. **Desirable** - Familiar with current structure of Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes. UK experience at middle-grade level. Further paediatric qualifications such as MPH, MSc. A minimum of 1 years’ experience in paediatrics in UK. ### Audit & quality improvement **Essential** - Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit and quality improvement.
