### Job overview

This twelve month post will provide an opportunity to gain sub-specialty experience and training at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield. The Sheffield Ophthalmology Department is a progressive and forward-thinking department. It is exceptionally well equipped, including state-of-the-art ophthalmic imaging facilities.

This fellowship provides extensive clinical and surgical experience in the diagnosis and management of a broad range of ocular oncology conditions including intraocular, ocular surface and adnexal tumours as well as experience in adnexal (lid, lacrimal and orbital) surgery. Prior oculoplastic experience would be an advantage.

Informal visits are encouraged and should be arranged through Mr Sachin Salvi or Ms Jennifer Tan by contacting their secretary on 0114 271 3829.

The fellow will provide intermediate grade support to the Consultant Ophthalmologists to their level of experience. There are opportunities to get involved with research and appointees will be actively encouraged to play a full part in the clinical, teaching and governance activities of the directorate.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The appointee will gain extensive experience in all aspects of ophthalmic oncology including diagnosing and managing adult intraocular, ocular surface, periocular and orbital tumours.

This Fellowship is the only one of its kind in England providing comprehensive training in all aspects of adult ophthalmic oncology. It is an exciting opportunity to work with five highly specialised Consultant Ophthalmologists with their own sub-speciality interests covering the full range of eye cancer patients.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

## Person Specification

### Research

**Essential**

- Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate

**Desirable**

- Publications in Peer reviewed journals
- Poster or Oral Presentation in oculoplastics/ ocular oncology at national/ international meeting such as RCOphth/ BOPSS/ AAO/ ISOO
- Previous research experience

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at point of application
- Member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (or equivalent)

**Desirable**

- BSc, MSc/MD or other visual sciences qualification
- Distinctions, Prizes, awards or scholarships.

### Clinical Experience

**Essential**

- 4 Years of formal Ophthalmology training or equivalent experience at point of application Level or equivalent experience

**Desirable**

- Previous surgical experience in oculoplastic and lacrimal surgery.
- Ability to be 1st on call if required
- Previous exposure to orbital surgery/ MDT approach to cases.
- Previous exposure to or awareness of ocular oncology procedures
- Ability to run independent general clinics if required
- Fellowship level experience in Oculoplastic surgery

- Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values
- The applicant must demonstrate skills listening, reading, writing and speaking English language that enables effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues as set out in the GMC' good medical practice (2013)

### Teaching and Training

**Essential**

- Experience of teaching medical students and junior doctors
- Experience in supervising ophthalmology trainees in minor oculoplastic procedures

### Continuous Professional Development

**Essential**

- Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months

**Desirable**

- Maintenance of a CPD dairy or portfolio
