## Job Content

### Job overview

This is a post-CCT/Paediatric Specialist Trainee 4+/Registrar level role from June 2026 for 3 months. With appropriate approval from your training programme director, this post would be suitable for out of programme experience (OOPE) training.

### Main duties of the job

These posts provide unique and exciting opportunities to gain General Paediatric and paediatric subspecialty experience, postgraduate education and personal leadership development while working at a busy tertiary paediatric centre.

St George’s Children’s Services received an “Outstanding” rating from the CQC in 2019 and we strive to continue to provide this excellence service to all our patients and their families.

The post would suit a level three trainee wishing to enhance their experience of a particular exciting area of paediatrics or an experienced senior international medical graduate wishing to experience training in an excellent, busy tertiary London paediatric centre. It would also suit a post-CCT paediatrician looking to consolidate their experience managing complex patients in a busy tertiary centre and develop an area of their interest.

The successful applicants will benefit from the wide range of St George’s sub speciality experience during the day and then form part of the well supported general paediatric middle grade on call rota on some days and out of hours. This is a flexible opportunity to obtain desired experience in some of the subspecialties St George’s provides. The post will be tailored to the experience and desire of the successful applicants.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will contribute to the busy middle grade rota in paediatric medicine, which is approximately 1 in 6.  The on-call rota includes evening, weekend and night duties on a rostered basis.

Daytime clinical work will be primarily based on paediatric wards, the children’s emergency department (CED) and paediatric outpatient clinics (depending on specialty).  The post holder will be expected to review and manage acute inpatients and supervise more junior trainees.  During time in CED they will take referral of acutely unwell patients and provide specialist input, lead a resuscitation team and be part of a major trauma team.  There are opportunities for outpatient experience in other subspecialties again depending on need.

There is flexibility in this post for non- clinical daytime activity including QI projects, patient safety work and paediatric simulation to allow for leadership development. This post would therefore be suitable for post- CCT trainees wishing to develop their subspecialty experience and leadership skills, thus preparing for consultant job application. It would also be suitable for any ST4+ trainee wishing to take time out of programme.

The post holder will be expected to actively contribute to the departmental governance programme, with audits of relevant services and involvement in relevant policy and guidance development.

There is a highly regarded, well received and very active departmental multidisciplinary teaching programme and the postholder will be expected to develop enhanced skills in teaching and learning. There will also be opportunity to teach medical students from SGUL
