Successful candidates will undertake 12 months in orthopaedic trauma. This post is ideal for trainees planning a CESR pathway who wish more experience of complex orthopaedics and major trauma. Post MRCS candidates who are looking for more experience prior to ST3 application will also be considered. The orthopaedic trauma service acts as a tertiary referral centre for major and polytrauma, pelvic fractures, limb reconstruction and bone infection. We also deal with a significant amount of general orthopaedic trauma and aim to provide exposure to common injuries such as hip, wrist and ankle fractures. ### Main duties of the job The job will have an on call component on the trauma service, based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, which is the regional major trauma centre. Newcastle is the tertiary referral centre for major and polytrauma, pelvic fractures, limb reconstruction and bone infection. We also deal with a significant amount of general orthopaedic trauma and aim to provide exposure to common injuries such as hip, wrist and ankle fractures. We expect the successful candidate to take a full role in the running of the department, including research, audit and quality improvement projects.
