Applications are invited for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Hands & Wrist Surgery. This is an exciting opportunity to gain comprehensive experience and training in Hands & Wrist Surgery at University College London Hospital.

The candidate must have obtained full registration with the General Medical Council of the United Kingdom. They should have FRCS (Tr&Orth) and should have achieved or be eligible for CCT.

The start date is August 2027, with a fixed-term contract for 12 months

### Main duties of the job

UCH Fellowships are clinically based specialist posts intended to give candidates excellent hands-on experience and a wide exposure to routine and complex cases in trauma and orthopaedic surgery.

The Hand and Wrist service at UCLH is delivered by four Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons.

The Hand Fellow would work with colleagues to deliver a comprehensive subspecialty/tertiary hand service in the trauma and elective settings. Trauma surgery is delivered through dedicated hand trauma lists, with specialist hand and wrist elective surgery provided at our elective orthopaedic hub on Grafton Way. We work closely with our hand therapy colleagues, hand ESP and hand dressings team.

In addition, there are ample academic, medical education and leadership opportunities which can be tailored to the needs of the Fellow. BSSH Hand Diploma candidates are supported in the unit.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Excellence clinical skills Capacity to use and develop a wide range of theoretical approaches.
- Proven ability and commitment to carry out high quality research, leading to publication.
- Involvement in the clinical audit process and an understanding of its aims and objectives.
- Interest and experience in hand and wrist surgery

**Desirable**

- Understanding and proven ability to apply research findings in a clinical / organisational context.

### Communication

**Essential**

- Ability to act as a consistent reference point in a team and to take a leadership role where needed.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work load, to delegate responsibilities as appropriate and to supervise staff.

**Desirable**

- Lecturing experience with a range of disciplines.

- Ability, enthusiasm and commitment to teach in a clinical setting.
- Ability to motivate, inspire and support multi-professional team and be able to work effectively and sensitively within such teams.

- All aspects of orthopaedic surgery

- Eligible for full GMC Registration and possess MRCS (or equivalent)
- Clinical Knowledge commensurate with trauma and orthopaedic surgery registrar training
- FRCS (Tr&Orth)

**Desirable**

- Higher Academic Degree
- Achieved or eligible for CTT
