### Job summary

Senior Clinical Fellow in Andrology in the department of Urology We are inviting applications to fill our Senior Clinical Fellow in Andrology vacancy at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in Department of Urology This post is fixed term for 12 Months. Candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a license to practice by the intended start date.

### Main duties of the job

The Urology department are looking for a Senior Fellow to specialise in Andrology service. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to be part of an expanding service that offers operating, clinics training opportunities and to be part of the overall urology service providing acute and on call services. Our urology department is made up of 18 consultants offering all subspecialties except for gender (though our trust hosts the second paediatric Tavistock centre based at the LGI). As one of the largest andrology departments in the country we can offer high volume training in all branches of andrology (benign and malignant), excluding gender reassignment surgery (although our plastic departments offers Phalloplastys our department isnt directly involved). Our andrology service takes place over two sites. At the main site St James, the more complicated (patient factors) and penile cancer work takes place here due to access to HDU/ITU and supporting specialties (plastics, radiology, colorectal etc). However most benign andrology operating takes place at our cold operating site at Wharfedale Hospital. This cold site is in Otley, 15mins north of Leeds and is our new dedicated cold site surgical bub for pure elective activity. Here all our benign andrology takes place (except for high anaesthetic risk patients).

Why you should join our Team

Our Andrology unit is the only one in Yorkshire with a catchment of some 5-million patients, as well as receiving referrals from surrounding andrology units in the North. We offer:

- High volume penile implant surgery. All our implant surgery takes place WEEKLEY at our dedicated cold site at WGH each Monday and some Wednesday. We offer both penoscrotal and infrapubic approaches (majority penoscrotal) from the two main implant companies. We receive complex cases (complications, Peyronies grafts, revisions) from surrounding units in Yorkshire and the North-east. With WGH we perform 70-100 cases a year (mostly inflatable but some malleable) and expanding. We are in the process of setting up a dedicated prosthesis MDT based on our penile cancer MDT and radiology support.
- Penile curvature surgery. Most of our surrounding DGH units have stopped providing this service so referrals have rapidly increased. We offer all forms of penile curvature surgery with a wealth of experience from our 3-consultants, particularly Mr Eardley. In particular use of Saphenous vein graft in Lue’s procedure though Tutoplast is or usual graft. Each year we perform ~5-10 Lue and \>60 plication procedures through a variety of techniques.
- Fertility. We are the only male factor infertility service in Yorkshire. We are fortunate to work with CAREfertility to provide one of the largest dedicated MFI services outside of London. Our referrals come from Yorkshire and the North of England due to Leeds Care being one of the largest assisted reproductive centres providing many unique services such as PGT (preimplantation genetic testing). We hold an MDT with our IVF colleagues and have a dedicated MFI endocrinologist Dr Rob Murray. We also provide paediatric sperm retrievals with endocrine, haematology and oncology colleagues and have submitted a bid (to the Leeds hospital charity) to get an Electro-ejaculator. We perform 4-8 surgical sperm retrievals a month and microscopic reconstructions (varicocele repair, vasoepididymostomy , TURED)
- Penile cancer. At Leeds we see some 50 new penile cancer patients each year exposing the fellow to major open and reconstructive surgery and use of skin grafts.
- Urethroplasties. Mr Eardley and Mr Elmamoun provide this service should the fellow be interested. On average 15-30 cases a year.
- Clinics. We have weekly dedicated benign and penile cancer clinics (separate). Clinics are done in conjunction with a consultant andrologist with nurse led clinics alongside. We have a dedicated pump clinic supported by industry (due to waiting list) though our 2 CNS still offer this service alongside ICI and implant counselling. Fertility clinics take place twice a month with our reproductive medicine colleagues. We provide MFI training for their trainees and vice versa.
- Emergency procedures. As with any large teaching hospital there is plenty of exposure to such cases. Priapisms (and subsequent early implantation), penile fractures, Fourniers are referred on a regular basis. We have close links to our adult and paediatric haematologists, regularly seeing stuttering/sickle cell patients in our benign clinics.

What you will bring to the role

1 years’ experience in Urology after full GMC registration or equivalent, and evidence of achievement of foundation competences, in line with GMC standards / Good Medical Practice.
