### Job overview

- The Department of Anaesthesia at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is offering 6 to 12-month senior clinical fellow posts in general anaesthesia at Charing Cross Hospital. These posts are available from 4 November 2026. Start dates after this time will also be considered. It is ideal for either Specialty Registrars approaching the end of their training, or an anaesthetist who has completed their training and is looking to round off their experience prior to securing a consultant post.
- Applicants are required to have fully completed the FRCA or equivalent qualification and have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in anaesthesia and intensive care in a structured training program.
- The clinical duties would cover the Stage 2 and 3 (sub-specialties Airway and Neuro-anaesthesia available) curriculum of the Royal College of Anaesthesia (RCOA). Clinical fellows will have opportunities to undertake activities that enhance their non-clinical skills such as education, research, and quality improvement and publication preparation.
- Out of hours, the post holder will cover emergency theatre work, cardiac arrest calls and the acute pain service. The rota follows a full shift pattern with prospective cover and is EWTD compliant.

### Main duties of the job

- As the senior clinical fellow in anaesthesia, the post-holder will take part in a 1:8 senior registrar on-call rota alongside other residents. The post holder’s clinical time will be spent on a variety of surgical lists covering specialties highlighted below. As far as possible, our department will provide senior clinical fellows the opportunity to spend more time in their preferred surgical sub-specialties to further their career goals.
- The surgical specialties covered at Charing Cross hospital are neurosurgery (including interventional neuro-radiology and thrombectomy), head and neck (including plastics reconstructions, free flaps and robotic assisted surgery), complex airway procedures (including laryngo-tracheal reconstruction and airway lasering), major urology (including robotic assisted surgery), ENT, plastics, major colorectal (including HIPEC), major orthopaedics and day surgery.
- St Mary’s hospital is one of the four London Major Trauma Centres with associated surgical specialties, a quaternary vascular service and a busy obstetric unit. Additionally, colorectal, oesophageal, general, bariatric and paediatric surgery are also provided at this site.

- Hammersmith Hospital includes renal, hepatobiliary, cardio-thoracic surgery, major gynae-oncology surgery and also provide anaesthesia for upper GI and endocrine surgery.
