### Job overview

This is a substantive post in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.

The post offers senior registrars or post CCT fellow an opportunity to consolidate their training in benign gynaecology, benign surgery and acute gynaecology. The successful applicant will receive training in management of benign gynaecological conditions including medical surgical and psychological components of the disorders. The doctor will also be expected to maintain the local database and take part in research activity. In addition, he/she will be taking a leadership role in the management of the Acute Gynaecology Service and gain skills in gynaecology scanning. Obstetrics skills will be maintained by participation in the on-call rota.

### Main duties of the job

The duties under Consultant supervision include the following –

- Taking part in regular EPU Clinics with multidisciplinary team
- Coordinate and manage acute gynaecology pathway, including ‘hot clinic’
- Perform and supervise surgical management of gynaecology emergencies
- Attending main theatre and day surgery and performing procedures under consultant supervision
- Manage the monthly MDT meetings
- Engage in research activities, either existing or candidates own research.
- Supervision and day-to-day care of junior doctors working in EPU

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

### On-Call Duties

The unit offers a two tier system for junior doctors. The successful applicant will work on the middle grade rota. The job includes nights and weekends on call. There is a regular weekend on-call and approximately three nights monthly.

### Emergency Cover

The Junior Doctor accepts that he / she will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the Duty Consultant, in conjunction where practicable with his / her colleagues, both senior and junior.

It has been agreed between the professions and the DHSS while junior staffs accept that they will perform such duties, it stresses that additional commitments arising under this sub-section are exceptional and in particular that Junior Staff should not be required to undertake work on this kind for prolonged periods on a regular basis.

### Applicant requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

### Qualifications

- GMC registered
- Relevant NHS and overseas experience
- Relevant Clinical knowledge
- MBBS or equivalent, MRCOG Part 1

**Desirable**

- Relevant ATSM (experience in obstetric ultrasound)
- Relevant training for the post
- MRCOG part 2,3

### Skills / Abilities

**Essential**

- Diagnostic Laparoscopy
- Manage Labour ward including performing CS, instrumental deliveries, perineal repairs, interpreting CTG and dealing with obstetric emergencies
- Experience with gynaecology emergencies including managing ectopic pregnancies, miscarriage and the acute abdomen

**Desirable**

- Laparoscopic Management of Ectopic pregnancy.
- Diagnostic Laparoscopy Manage Labour ward including performing CS, instrumental deliveries, perineal repairs, interpreting CTG and dealing with obstetric emergencies Experience with gynaecology emergencies including managing ectopic pregnancies, miscarriage and the acute abdomen Laparoscopic Management of Ectopic pregnancy.
