An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic and motivated Senior Clinical Coders to join our highly experienced and friendly Clinical Coding team at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust in Cornwall. You will have the opportunity to engage with clinicians, validate clinical coding and become the lead coder for designated specialties.

Due to the imminent implementation of our Electronic Patient Record, we are able to offer remote or hybrid working to the successful candidate. Due to a recent retirement, we now have four full time vacancies available.

As a department we offer clinical coders a supportive, comprehensive training and development structure through strong leadership, an in-house training programme delivered through a Terminology and Classifications Delivery Service Approved Clinical Coding Trainer. Continued professional development for all clinical coders, developing existing skills and learning new ones is important to us. We organise regular clinically led education sessions relating to multiple areas of clinical coding.

Our team also has a group of Mental Health First Aiders to support staff wellbeing.

### Main duties of the job

As an Accredited Senior Clinical Coder, you will need to be able to demonstrate an extensive understanding of both ICD-10 and OPCS 4 classifications, complex coding rules and the application of national clinical coding standards.

You will have an adaptable and organised approach to work, supporting the provision of accurate and high quality clinical coding for admitted patient activity.

The Clinical Coding Team is responsible for the extraction and translation of documented clinical information pertaining to inpatient admissions into diagnosis (ICD-10) and procedural (OPCS 4) clinical codes. Clinical coded data is crucial to the Trust for many key functions such as business planning, reporting, mortality indicators and underpins the income received through the National Tariff Payment Scheme.

The post holder will play a key part in ensuring clinical documentation is fit for coding purposes, data quality is accurate and specialties are engaged with our service requirements.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Significant experience working in a coding dept
- Experience of participating in complex coding audits and validation
- Experience of working with hospital-based computer systems
- Experience using Windows packages
- Experienced at supervising or mentoring staff

**Desirable**

- Experience of using data analysis and benchmarking tools
- Experience using Oracle Millennium EPR
- Experience using Solventum Medicode 360

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Accredited Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ)
- Clinical Coding Refresher Course completion within the last 3 years
- Minimum of 5 GCSE passes at grade 4 or above or equivalent, must include Maths, English & Science
- ECDL or equivalent IT qualification

**Desirable**

- Supervisory qualification
- Willingness to undertake auditor qualification
