An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Clinical Coding Department at Telford and Shrewsbury NHS Trust. We are seeking enthusiastic, motivated and professionally accredited Clinical Coders (ACC) to join our established and supportive team.

As part of our commitment to attracting and retaining high-quality coding professionals, this role includes a 15% Recruitment and Retention Premium, paid monthly in addition to basic salary.

A Band 4 intermediate clinical coder position would be considered for any candidates wanting to take the NCCQ examination or awaiting results and with demonstrable recent experience working as a clinical coder within the NHS. Any candidates not wishing to take the NCCQ examination must have significant recent experience within an acute NHS trust clinical coding department.

Candidates must have completed the NHS Digital approved standards / foundation course. Other essential skills include excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with junior clinical coders, auditors and clinicians. If you choose to sit the NCCQ examination, you will be fully supported.

### Main duties of the job

- You will be responsible for the clinical coding of inpatient and day-case episodes across all specialties
- You will liaising with Clinicians and Clinical teams on a regular basis to verify data recorded in the Electronic Patient Record. to ensure coding accuracy and integrity are maintained at the highest level.
- You will act as mentor to and assist in the training of less experienced coders.

## Person Specification

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- National Clinical Coding Qualification (ACC) typically demonstrated by a minimum of 3yrs coding experience following the successful completion of the Clinical Coding Standards Course
- Educated to a minimum of 5 GCSE 9-4 (A-C) including Maths, Human Biology and English or relevant equivalent experience
- Evidence of attendance at a Clinical Coding Standards Refresher Course within the last 3yrs.

**Desirable**

- ECDL

### Experience and knowledge

**Essential**

- Extensive experience of Clinical Coding procedures and conventions in a wide range of specialties in an NHS setting
- Detailed knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology
- Knowledge of National Clinical Coding standards, and their application and knowledge of PBR and HRGs
- Acute NHS Clinical Coding/office experience
- Detailed knowledge of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology

**Desirable**

- Experience of working with clinicians to implement change and service improvement
