### Job overview

An exciting opportunity to recruit a Senior Capacity Manager to the Capacity Management Team at SWB NHST has opened up, based at the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital site.

Applicants are required to have the relevant experience to manage the complexities of patient flow in both the acute and community setting, manage a team, respond to incidents, and to work alongside clinical teams, external partners, Senior management and Directors to deliver safe and timely solutions for every patients.

As a senior role you are expected to lead on the delivery of projects and support change.

### Main duties of the job

The role of Senior Capacity Manager requires applicants to have extensive experience of managing patient flow in the acute setting, to be able to work alongside senior management to deliver safe solutions for our patients and demonstrate leadership for the Trust. This senior role include undertaking other projects to enhance and establish patient flow pathways and to support our quality agenda.

The post holder will also undertake the tactical commander role at the outset of an incident playing a pivotal role in co-ordinating and communicating actions.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be expected to provide on site leadership for capacity management, by prioritising the immediate issues and agreeing with clinical and non-clinical teams, the acceptable outcome for patients.

To work with the Assistant Director of Operations and Resilience Management on the delivery of corporately agreed patient flow key performance indicators that in turn support a clinically safe outcome for users of our Trust, 24 hours per day.

The post holder will be required to lead on issues/projects within the team/service in relation to the Trust’s Quality agenda, local or national targets and ongoing developments with the team to drive efficiencies and best practice clinical care models.

The post holder will be expected to liaise with internal and external colleagues in Health and Social and Voluntary Sector to agree best practice outlined in clinical pathways.

The post holder will provide senior advice and direction to the Capacity Leads, Bed Management and discuss contingency plans when escalating to the Assistant DIrector of Operations and Resilience Management or an identified other in their absence.

## Person Specification

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Understanding of external agencies that the NHS works closely with, for example, Social Services, Emergency Services, Voluntary Sector.
- Understanding of the complexities and pace of change in the NHS.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Extensive experience as a Health Care Manager or Health Professional in the acute sector with, responsibility for operational matters.
- Experience of working under pressure to deliver corporate and national targets.

**Desirable**

- Previous clinical or management experience in community services / primary care.
- Experience of working with emergency Services.
- Experience of working with Social Services in health care.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Educated to degree level or equivalent.
- Possession of a management qualification at Post Graduate Diploma level or equivalent.
- Evidence of continued professional development and qualification.

### Written skills

**Essential**

- Ability to understand and interpret complex reports and data, considering the impact on the Trust and/or Division.
- Able to prepare and analyse complex reports and policies. (Business Cases, Reports, Complaint Responses, Investigations etc.)

- Ability to take responsibility for the full range of Capacity management responsibilities for a number of issues within the Trust.
- Recruitment, development, performance management, discipline etc.
- Able to interpret national guidance for the health economy in patient experience and patient flow requirements.

### Responsibility for financial and ohysical resources

- Ability to manage the delivery of key performance targets within strict financial controls.
