### Job overview

The Cellular Pathology department at York Hospital is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated Senior Biomedical Scientist with a focus on quality and patient safety.  This role includes specific responsibility for the specimen reception and cut-up section of the laboratory.

The successful candidate must be committed to quality and improvement and possess the following qualities:

- An innovative, forward-looking approach
- Excellent interpersonal / leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage change and motivate staff.
- Extensive technical and theoretical knowledge in Cellular Pathology, with particular expertise in specimen reception and cut‑up
- The necessary experience to undertake the challenging role

The department is UKAS accredited and IBMS approved for training.  The service is entering an exciting phase of transformation, with the implementation of Cerebro specimen tracking and digital pathology, offering opportunities for the post holder to shape and lead service developments.

### Main duties of the job

You MUST meet all the essential criteria for this post

- To manage a team in the specimen reception and cut-up section of the Cellular Pathology laboratory to ensure all work is processed in an efficient manner.
- Perform audits relevant to the specialist area.
- Plan staff rosters
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and service users throughout the Trust, community, and wider organisations to provide information of a complex nature.
- Report adverse incidents via the DATIX system and contribute to the completion of associated CAPAs in the quality management system.
- Develop and review documentation ensuring they meet UKAS ISO:15189 2022 standards for the specialist area.
- Lead in the development of new methods and the implementation of new technologies
- Ordering and stock management to ensure sufficient supplies and consumables
- Perform team appraisals
- Lead in the validation and verification of new equipment and procedures.
- Support departmental inspections, assessments, and accreditation activities.
- Deputising for the Chief BMS as required
