An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and innovative Senior Biomedical Scientist for a fixed term of 12 months, to work  in our newly refurbished Cellular pathology department. The post holder will be expected to work closely with other senior staff across pathology to deliver a high quality service to our users.

The successful candidate will be a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist. They will have completed the IBMS Specialist Portfolio and hold an appropriate higher qualification. Applicants will be require evidence of obtaining the relevant higher qualification within 3 months of this appointment .

The role will include participation in routine specimen dissection, advanced technical support, supervision and staff management. There will be a requirement to contribute to the maintenance of departmental UKAS accreditation.

The department operates an extended working day Monday – Friday between 7am and 6pm. The successful candidate will be expected to work on a rotational basis between these hours which also include a 1:6 Saturday rotation.

The Department has UKAS accreditation, IBMS training approval and CPD is actively encouraged

The pathology departments at NTH and STH are working collaboratively to develop a joint service with services being delivered on both hospital sites. This will require cross site working as appropriate

This is a senior level laboratory post which will include provision of supervision, training and management to provide a technical service which meets both Trust and national standards.

The post holder will be expected to have an in-depth knowledge of Cellular pathology and be intrinsically involved in quality and service development.

The post holder will be expected to deputise for the relevant Lead scientist as required.

The post holder is expected to participate, as appropriate, in regional and national groups to develop guidelines and support development of Pathology provision across the wider NHS.

The post holder will analyse and process pathology specimens and provide technically accurate results.

The post holder will also participate in  routine specimen dissection.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Extensive laboratory experience
- Management / Supervisory experience
- Experience of Quality Management Systems
- Experience of UKAS accreditation

**Desirable**

- Evidence of contribution to or management of a service change project

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- IBMS accredited degree or demonstrated equivalent that must be documented in the application
- HCPC registration.
- MSc Biomedical Science (or equivalent eg. IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma)
- IBMS Specialist portfolio in Cellular Pathology
- Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD)

**Desirable**

- Management or Leadership Qualification
