This post is based at the Royal Stoke Hospital site, but rotation to the County site can be expected. You must have full HCPC registration for appointment as a Senior Biomedical Scientist along with an IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Haematology/Transfusion or equivalent and either an MSc, Higher Specialist Diploma or equivalent in biomedical science plus additional specialist blood transfusion knowledge. ### Main duties of the job You will assist in the management of the Blood Transfusion service providing expert knowledge in the area, managing staff and training and developing and maintaining SOPs. The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions. ## Person Specification ### Personal Qualities **Essential** - Professional personal presentation and manner. - Positive attitude and flexible - Must participate in the required rota pattern for the department. - Prepared to work flexibly, including participating out of routine hours service arrangements when required to do so. - Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post (with reasonable adjustments if necessary). - Ability and willingness to fulfil the travel requirements of the post if/as relevant – primary place of work as per JD but occasionally may be reasonably asked to work at another site where the Trust has responsibility for Pathology Services. ### Knowledge and Skills **Essential** - A minimum of 5 years post-registration practical experience of working in relevant Pathology discipline in a busy laboratory environment. - - One or more sub-specialised analytical or clinical areas - - Supervising / managing staff. - - Training a range of ‘students’ e.g. medical , scientific and support staff - - Pathology IT systems - - Working with complex and specialist laboratory equipment. - - Active liaison with clinicians and healthcare professionals. - Well-developed oral and written communication skills. - - Effectively apply skills and knowledge - Work with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and contribute to their review and - - Work within safe systems of work and report any deficiencies in those systems. **Desirable** - Experience of working in an acute NHS Trust - Experience in presenting data to clinical and scientific audiences in a range of formats. - Ability to establish and maintain effective Pathology networks with internal and external colleagues. ### Essential Qualifications **Essential** - BSc, Registration and Specialist - MSc, HSD or alternative - Registered Biomedical Scientist with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC). - Evidence of continued professional development (CPD). - Knowledge of relevant laboratory data management systems and policies.
