### JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Podiatrist – Full time/Part time/Permanent/Temporary/Job Share

BAND: 5

LOCATION: Podiatry

REPORTS TO: Podiatry Services Manager/Team Leader

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Head of Podiatry Services

### JOB SUMMARY

To be responsible for providing care to people with a variety of clinical needs, e.g. vascular disease, structural and functional abnormalities, musculoskeletal, wound management/tissue viability, neuropathic, Nail Surgery.

To assist in the development and improvement projects in the Trust in conjunction with other Podiatry Staff.

To provide care in a variety of settings, e.g. community clinics, nursing homes and domiciliary settings and hospitals.

### KEY RESULT AREAS / MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

To work in accordance with the HCPC Code of Professional Conduct, including scope of professional practice;

To carry out assessments of patients in a variety of settings, initiate and implement treatment plans and monitor progress;

To provide a high quality service and have individual responsibility and be professionally and legally accountable, for all aspects of podiatric clinical care for patients , delegating as necessary, and referring onwards when deemed to be appropriate;

To maintain patient records at a high standard ensuring that they are complete, legible and accurate;

To ensure all timely provision of statistical information on clinical activity in accordance with Trust Policy;

To be responsible for the care, maintenance and decontamination of instruments and equipment;

To observe all Health and Safety regulations and report accidents/hazards immediately to Podiatry Line Manager;

To provide foot health education advice to patients, relatives and carers;

To contribute towards a multi-professional approach in the management of patients with podiatry clinical needs.;

To provide clinical advice/support to the wider multidisciplinary team by maintaining effective communication;

To liaise with other professions with regard to the podiatry caseload and service developments;

Take responsibility for own continuous professional development;

To attend staff meetings, study days, training sessions and participate in postgraduate courses as required;

To participate in Staff Appraisal/Supervision Process;

To participate in quality improvement and clinical audit initiatives, as required;

To participate in Health Promotional activities/programmes, as appropriate;

To participate in research projects as required;

To participate in training of podiatry students and other staff as required;

To provide cover for colleagues as/when required;

To maintain adequate stock levels of materials and equipment;

### Records Management

All employees of the Trusts are legally responsible for all records held, created or used as part of their business including patient/client, corporate and administrative records whether paper based or electronic and also including e-mails. All such records are public records and are accessible to the general public, with limited exceptions, under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, the Environment Regulations 2004 and Data Protection Act 1998. Employees are required to be conversant with the Trusts policy and procedure on records management and to seek advice if in doubt.

Environmental Cleaning Strategy

The Trusts Environmental Cleaning Strategy recognizes the key principle that “ Cleanliness matters is everyone’s responsibility, not just the cleaners” Whilst there are staff employed who are responsible for cleaning services, all Trust staff have a responsibility to ensure a clean, comfortable, safe environment for patients, clients, residents, visitors, staff and members of the general public.

Infection Prevention and Control

The Trusts are committed to reducing Healthcare associated infections (HCAIs) and all staff have a part to play in making this happen. Staff must comply with all policies in relation to Infection Prevention and Control and with ongoing reduction strategies. Standard Infection Prevention and Control Precautions must be used at all times to ensure the safety of patients and staff.

This Job Description will be subject to review in the light of changing circumstances and is not intended to be rigid and inflexible but should be regarded as providing guidelines within which the individual works. Other duties of a similar nature and appropriate to the grade may be assigned from time to time.

It is a standard condition that all Trust staff may be required to work at any location within the Trust's area, as needs of the service demand
