### Job overview

You will be joining our security team as one of our valued officers whose role will be to assist the Royal Cornwall Hospital provide excellent healthcare to our inpatients and outpatient while they are using our services.  You will be available to provide support, help and guidance to our patients and visitors to ensure that their time with us is a safe and trouble-free experience.

Working closely with medical and nursing staff you will be part of the team who will help them to enjoy their working experience by always being available to provide support and protection to them when they are called on to work with patients who become troublesome or demanding due to their medical condition.

You will possess an approachable manner and be courteous and knowledgeable when communicating with hospital users.  Decision making will be one of your strengths when called to attend and provide support with difficult situations which can either be intentional acts by volatile individuals or problems caused by clinically related challenging behaviour. You will need to have excellent communication skills both verbal and written and be able to demonstrate a reasonable level of IT literacy. Due to the diverse service demands of healthcare provision, female applicants with previous security-related experience are actively encouraged to join our team.

### Main duties of the job

As an NHS security officer, you will provide a wide range of duties which will require a customer focused approach. You will provide a timely response to support patients, visitors, members of the public and hospital staff across a broad range of issues.

You may be involved daily in high level impact and intense situations, requiring the regular use of conflict management and physical intervention, resulting in this being a physical and mentally demanding role.

To support you in carrying out these duties each officer will be expected to successfully attend the Physical Intervention Training qualification course.  You will undertake the normal wide range of general security tasks which will include (but not be limited to) high profile guarding and patrol duties, key holding, locking and unlock procedures, responding to and managing incidents including license and ideally you will hold a current SIA license and/or be willing to work towards achieving a Healthcare Security Officer’s qualification.  This post will also require a DBS check to an enhanced level. You will receive a full range of induction and training into the Trust and your work.  You will work a rotational shift pattern, which will attract unsocial hours and weekend working enhancements.potentially volatile situations. Your duties will require you to hold a current, clean full UK driving

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience of dealing with the general public in a diverse, fast moving, customer-oriented organisation in a position of trust.
- Working a 24/7 Shift service.
- Working in a physically and mentally demanding role.
- Working within a large and widespread environment requiring high levels of fitness.
- Working in the public sector.
- IT literate (Word, Excel, Outlook).

**Desirable**

- Working in a Hospital environment
- Previous experience of security in a complex organisation or uniformed service
- UK Security / Police or Military background.
- Security / Police or Military background (other)

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Standard Level General Education
- Candidates are able to speak and write English to an appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirement
- Must be willing to attend and qualify as a NHS Security Accredited Security Officer within 3 months of employment
- Must be able to pass written test (not AI generated)
- Must be able to pass visual test

**Desirable**

- GCE/CSE/GCSE or equivalent
- Customer Service NVQ Level 3
- NAHS or Security Officer qualification or equivalent
