The Security & Violence Reduction Manager  is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment that supports effective patient care. The role involves leading and managing the security team, overseeing daily operations, and ensuring a professional, visible presence across all sites. Key duties include responding to and managing security incidents, supporting de‑escalation of violence and aggression, and safeguarding vulnerable individuals.

The post holder will analyse incident data, CCTV, and trends to identify risks and develop effective solutions, contributing to continuous improvement in security and violence‑reduction practices. They will communicate and collaborate with staff, patients, and external partners such as police, while promoting a positive reporting culture and supporting affected staff.

Additional responsibilities include maintaining accurate records, supporting audits and governance processes, contributing to policy development, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, and managing security resources and systems. The role also requires strong organisational skills to plan workloads, coordinate rotas, support training, and assist in emergency and high‑risk planning, while working independently and exercising sound professional judgement.

### Skills

**Essential**

- Ability to analyse complex incident information, CCTV, and witness accounts to identify risks, patterns, and learning.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to engage compassionately with staff who have experienced violence or distress.
- Skilled in building collaborative relationships across clinical, estates, police, and operational teams.
- Competent in the use of digital security systems, incident databases, and report preparation tools
- Effective problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound operational recommendations in fast-moving situations
- Ability to organise and prioritise workloads, plan security activities, and support rota or deployment decisions
- Capable of supporting policy implementation and service improvements related to security and violence reduction

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Strong understanding of security operations in healthcare or similarly complex environments (e.g., access control, CCTV, physical security measures).
- Detailed knowledge of NHS Violence Prevention & Reduction (VPR) Standards and associated national guidance
- Understanding of conflict management, de escalation principles, and behaviour related risk indicators.
- Knowledge of incident reporting systems (e.g., InPhase) and information governance requirements for handling sensitive data
- Familiarity with criminal justice processes, including when incidents meet thresholds for police involvement or sanctions
- Awareness of safeguarding responsibilities relating to both staff and vulnerable individuals
- Understanding of Trust security policies, emergency response protocols, and relevant legislation (e.g., Protect Duty/Martyn’s Law)

**Desirable**

- Experience in NHS security or VPR roles; Protect Duty knowledge; ; multi‑agency working

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience supporting or delivering security operations, ideally in a healthcare or public facing environment
- Experience reviewing violence/ aggression incidents and providing support to affected staff.
- Experience liaising with police or external agencies during incident reviews or investigations
- Previous involvement in data analysis, audit activity, or providing reports for governance meetings
- Experience working in multidisciplinary settings, coordinating responses to safety-critical events
- Experience supporting staff development, training, or day-to-day task coordination

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Level 3–5 qualification or equivalent in security/risk/policing/related field
- CPD evidence
- Conflict resolution / de escalation training
- Safeguarding training

**Desirable**

- SIA Licence (Door Supervisor/Security Guarding)
- BTEC/IQ Level 4–5 or ASIS security management certification
- NEBOSH/IOSH H&S qualifications
- NHS VPR or legacy NHS Protect courses
- ILM Level 3/5 leadership qualification
