### Job summary

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Scrub Nurse to join our weekend theatre team at James Paget NHS Trust. This role offers the opportunity to work within a high-quality, patient-focused surgical service, supporting a range of specialties including general surgery, ENT, and Gynaecology.

As a Scrub Nurse, you will play a key role in delivering safe and effective perioperative care, ensuring the smooth running of theatre lists and maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice. You will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to support patient safety, assist during surgical procedures, and contribute to efficient theatre operations.

This is a weekend-based role within a structured theatre service, offering consistent shifts and the opportunity to contribute to a well-established and supportive clinical environment

### Main duties of the job

Prepare and set up sterile theatre equipment and instruments for gynaecology, ENT, and general surgery procedures

Maintain a strict sterile field and adhere to aseptic techniques throughout operations

Assist surgeons by anticipating needs and passing instruments efficiently

Perform and document surgical counts (swabs, needles, instruments) to ensure patient safety

Participate in WHO surgical safety checks and ensure correct patient/procedure/site

Handle and label surgical specimens appropriately for laboratory analysis

Support patient positioning and intraoperative care

Assist with wound dressing and patient transfer post-procedure

Ensure proper cleaning, decontamination, and restocking of instruments and theatre supplies

Communicate effectively with the surgical and anaesthetic team to ensure smooth running of procedures
