We’re a friendly, supportive team, performing and reporting ultrasound examinations while ensuring the highest standard of patient care.

All sonographers working at band 7 and band 8a across radiology are awarded Recruitment and Retention Premia payments of £5000 per annum pro rata.

We also offer a generous relocation package worth up to £13,000.

Our obstetric service is delivered at Royal Bournemouth Hospital in our  newly built state of the art maternity unit where we provide obstetric scanning alongside our maternity colleagues.

Our general ultrasound service is split over several sites, Poole, Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch hospitals and two community diagnostic centres in Poole and Southbourne. We carry out many types of ultrasound examinations such as general medical, obstetrics, gynaecology, vascular, paediatrics, including neonatal hips and neonatal heads, and musculoskeletal. We also scan as part of the Early Pregnancy clinic and provide a 7 day ultrasound service.

There is a mix of Philips, GE, Canon and Samsung ultrasound systems throughout the department. This is an incredibly exciting time to join us as we transform our services across Dorset.

### Main duties of the job

- To work as a member of the radiology team providing an efficient and effective diagnostic imaging service.
- To produce a wide range of high-quality diagnostic images whilst optimising patient care.
- To work as a specialist in Ultrasound undertaking and producing autonomous reports on a range of ultrasound examinations.
- To oversee the implementation, delivery and monitoring of the ultrasound aspects of the Down’s syndrome screening quality assurance support service (DQASS). The SSS must actively participate in the DQASS process including submission of a minimum of 25 paired measurements on a 6-monthly basis
- To work with the US Clinical Lead and US management team to put in place an on-going education and training programme for ultrasound practitioners
- To attend the UHD Ante-Natal and Newborn Screening Programme Board Governance meeting as required

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Postgraduate experience in ultrasound
- Ability to work independently in all areas of ultrasound including – obstetrics, gynaecology and general abdominal
- Evidence of continual professional development
- Recent NHS experience

**Desirable**

- Experience supervising, teaching and mentoring all grades of staff
- MSK
- Vascular
- Paediatric (including neonatal hips and neonatal heads)

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Diploma of college of Radiographers/BSc. Radiography or equivalent
- HCPC Registration
- Postgraduate qualification in Medical Ultrasound
- Current FMF nuchal translucency accreditation

### Technical Skills

**Essential**

- Autonomous Practitioner
- Good time management and prioritisation skills
- Ability to analyse and interpret complex information to provide accurate, concise, clinical reports
- Good communicator, compassionate attitude towards patient care
- Team worker
- Counselling skills
