The ODN Neonatal with Medical Complexity Neonatal Nurse Practitioner will work as part of the multidisciplinary team within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the Operational Delivery Network (ODN), providing specialist nursing care to neonates and infants with complex medical needs. This role will involve working collaboratively across regional neonatal services to ensure high-quality, evidence-based care is provided to vulnerable neonates, from birth to discharge.

The role provides leadership across the ODN, acting as a source of expertise, advice and knowledge for neonates, families, and healthcare professionals. Working with the ODN Manager and Lead Clinicians as part of a multi-disciplinary leadership team, the postholder will lead strategic and operational development of coherent and effective ODN arrangements, and delivery of a programme of work that addresses national and local priorities to improve services. The postholder will lead education and training, clinical effectiveness, clinical audit, service-user engagement, and risk management related to the care of medically complex neonates and their families.

## Person Specification

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Registered Nurse with current NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) registration
- Specialist Neonatal Training QiS
- Neonatal training at master’s level or equivalent knowledge and skills

**Desirable**

- Leadership course/module or recognised Leadership qualification

### Other Requiremenrs

**Essential**

- Clean driving licence– the role will entail significant travel

### Analytical and Judgement Skills

- Proven experience of the entire audit process
- Excellent IT skills

### Knowledge & Nature of Experience

**Essential**

- Significant experience of acute neonatal clinical care at Band 7 or above particularly in managing infants with complex medical conditions.
- Proven experience of the delivery and evaluation of high-quality multidisciplinary education, training, and mentoring
- Experience of mentoring staff/offering supervision
- Proven ability to lead and manage clinical teams in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- In-depth knowledge of neonatology, paediatric care, and care of neonates with medical complexity.
- Understanding of key issues, local and national healthcare policies and protocols, particularly related to neonatal and paediatric care.
