### Job overview

To provide a highly specialist clinical psychology service to children and young people who are in the care system and their care givers, with complex and severe mental health problems.  Clinically, the post-holder will be responsible for individual case management and will be expected to conduct specialist psychological assessments, produce complex formulations, and deliver direct therapeutic work. They will also provide specialist advice and consultation to a range of multiagency professionals and non-professional carers, and utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development.

The post holder will support the psychological assessment and therapy provided by other clinicians involved in the service and be expected to work autonomously within professional guidelines, exercising full clinical responsibility, implementing changes where necessary whilst following the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures.

### Main duties of the job

The post is based within the CAMHS Team.  The post holder will:

- Provide specialist psychological assessment, formulation and intervention of clients referred to CAMHS using complex psychological data.
- Provide specialist psychological advice, guidance, training and consultation.
- Work as an effective member of the multi-disciplinary team.
- To contribute to the development of the CAMHS team clinical offer and participating in audit and research.
- The role involves monitoring and clinical oversight of referrals, waiting lists and allocations of cases.
- Supervise other psychological professionals within the team and framework of the team's policies and procedures.
- To provide specialist clinical placements and supervision to doctoral level trainees.
- Utilise theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidence- based practice in individual work and with other team members.
- Contribute to the team meetings and the effective operation of CAMHS.
- To provide advice, supervision and consultation and the dissemination of psychological research and theory.
- Demonstrate familiarity with the principles of child protection procedures and legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
- Develop own skills and knowledge and contribute to the development of others.
- Promote best practice in health and safety.
- Promote people’s equality, diversity and rights.

The post holder is expected to contribute to service development of the CAMHS CLA Mental Health Team.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency setting.
- Experience in a CAMHS or similar setting
- Experience of working with children and young people who are looked after by the local authority.
- Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment with children, young people and their families with severe and complex mental health problems across the full range of care settings.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Good honours degree in Psychology. Eligibility for Graduate Membership of the BPS
- PhD or DClinPsych or equivalent in Clinical Psychology
- Registered as a Practioner Psychologist (Clinical) with the HCPC
