Job overview

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Band 6 RIS PACS Senior Radiographer to join the Imaging Department at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust on a one-year fixed term basis.

This is an exciting opportunity to support Imaging and the wider clinical Imaging IT system users, Imaging IT Managers, IEP and Diagnostic Cloud Administrators, and the RIS PACS radiographer housekeeping team. You will play a key role in maintaining and developing the department’s digital imaging and information systems.

We are seeking someone with proven experience in RIS PACS system support, ideally within a large and fast-paced imaging environment. The Trust currently uses Philips PACS and Soliton RIS across all sites — Charing Cross, Hammersmith, and St Mary’s Hospitals as well as our CDC sites in Wembley and Willesden— and you will be involved in implementing and supporting new technologies and workflows.

Excellent communication skills are essential, as you will liaise with a wide range of stakeholders including Imaging and IT teams, clinicians, GPs, and external vendors such as Philips, Soliton, Sectra, Clinisys, Vital, and Radimetrics. A collaborative, flexible approach and strong team ethic are key to success in this role.

Main duties of the job

  • To carry out RIS PACS administration and maintenance housekeeping tasks such as correction of unspecified images and updating the voice recognition context dictionary.
  • Schedule maintenance, application upgrades, database administration tasks on the RIS/PACS/VNA and related imaging IT systems ensuring effective communication and liaison with the teams impacted by the change.
  • When required entering new users, rendering users inactive, liaising with all imaging professionals and clerical staff with regards to the correct format, destination of reports on RIS and the integrity of data held on RIS.
  • Assisting the Imaging IT Manager(s) with entering and retiring of reference table data such as exam codes, referral sources and authorised referrers and report authors.
  • Assisting the Imaging IT Manager(s), and when required taking the lead, with testing of new RIS, PACS and other associated imaging IT systems software updates, releases, patches or new instillations.
  • Assist with the uploading and/or production CDs or DVDs of patient imaging from PACS (± anonymisation of data) where necessary and support the Imaging teams if problems arise with the uploading/burning CD/DVD process.
  • Assist the Imaging IT manager to set up and maintain RIS letter templates, text and email appointment reminders for patient communication.
  • Collect error messages from specific RIS and or PACS workstations in support of troubleshooting and fault reporting.
