### Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced emergency nurse to apply for a band 6 post within the resuscitation area of the Emergency department at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

The resuscitation area has 5 beds and are for the mostly acutely unwell patients in the department. The department receives patients from many specialities including acute medicine, respiratory, stroke, elderly care, surgery, obstetrics and gynae, trauma and orthopedic, neurosurgery.

We are one of 12 adult only Major Trauma Centres in England and therefore  see a wide range of advanced trauma patients requiring specialist care.

The post will seek a dynamic and energetic individual able to work as part of a team. The postholder will be offered education, mandatory training and staff development within a positive learning environment. The department has links to Bright and Sussex University enabling access to further education.

You will be part of a team of Resus Junior Sister/Charge Nurses and will be required to rotate shifts including both days, nights and weekends.

Due to departmental acuity or staffing levels the post holder may sometimes be required to work in other areas of the Emergency Department. This would be at the decision of the shift leader.

### Main duties of the job

Service Delivery and Improvement

- To contribute to the overall effective management of the trauma and resuscitation unit and to maintain a clean and safe working environment, eg, tidy working area, clean up spillages, liaise with zone co-ordinator and shift leader etc.
- To manage a group of patients effectively and liaising effectively with other departments to ensure prompt and high quality care.
- To contribute to the effective use of resources and monitor the safe and economical use of all supplies and equipment, identifying problems and reporting to the ED Shift Leader/Management Nurse, eg, use appropriate equipment for purpose and minimise wastage.
- To assess and report practical hazards and take any immediate and appropriate action.
- To ensure that any incident, complaint or other undue occurrence is managed in accordance with departmental and Trust policy, eg complete the Datix process and statements in timely manner.
- Demonstrate an excellent understanding of clinical governance and risk management and its application to work.

People Management and Development

- Participate in the mentorship/practice assessing of students and new staff members.
- Solely coordinate resus, be accountable for own professional judgements, actions and omissions, ensuring safe transfer of patients arriving and leaving the clinical area.
