This fixed-term research post in lung cancer is aimed at post-foundation, pre-specialty trainees (F2–IMT3) and is based in the Academic Respiratory Unit at North Bristol NHS Trust, with an honorary University of Bristol contract. The unit is internationally recognised, with expertise in pleural disease, thoracic malignancy, airways disease, respiratory infection, and interstitial lung disease. It works closely with clinical services delivering lung cancer clinics, MDTs, pleural services, interventional procedures (e.g. EBUS, thoracoscopy), and the regional lung cancer screening programme. The fellow will join a multidisciplinary academic team (consultants, registrars, and an Academic Foundation Doctor) and a dedicated clinical lung cancer service. The role includes involvement in research projects, clinical trials, and data analysis, with a focus on early lung cancer diagnosis. Clinical work will be supernumerary for training purposes and include participation in lung cancer and pleural two-week-wait clinics and MDT meetings.

## Person Specification

### Personal Requirements

**Essential**

- Good written communication skills.
- Evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels.

### Training And Experience

**Essential**

- Minimum 2 years’ experience of working UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).
- Minimum of 2 years postgraduate experience, including evidence of achieving foundation and (where relevant) core medical training competencies.
- Recent experience of general medical posts.
- Does not hold a current NNT for specialty training

### Further Training & Management

**Essential**

- Evidence of recent CME/ reasonable training progression at this stage of career.

### Qualifications And Registration

**Essential**

- MBBS or equivalent
- Full registration with the GMC.
- Advanced Life support (ALS) accreditation

**Desirable**

- Additional undergraduate degree e.g. BSC or intercalated degree
- Higher academic qualification (e.g. MD, MSc or PhD).

### Audit, Research, Teaching, Publications

**Essential**

- Experience in audit project, including completion and write up
- Proven track record in research, including at least 1 poster/ oral presentation at national/ international conference
- At least 1 publication in peer reviewed journal
- Proven teaching ability.

**Desirable**

- Postgraduate teaching qualification
- Involvement in successful grant applications
- GCP certification
- Involvement in NIHR associate PI scheme
