- To provide high standards of evidenced-based patient centred care to patients of all ages who present with both acute and chronic phases of respiratory problems to the respiratory team in the acute hospital. To lead in a Clinical Nurse Specialist role ensuring practices are delivered to the highest standard.
- To work across respiratory medicine with respiratory patients as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing, and evaluating interventions and treatments for patient's attending with undifferentiated and undiagnosed respiratory presentations.

### Main duties of the job

Main Duties of the Job:

- To work autonomously but also with all members of the respiratory team, both within the ward setting and the extended team outside of this setting to develop a service and aim to reduce the length of stay for patients within DCHFT whilst working within the NMC code of professional conduct and DCHFT Trust and local policies and procedures, always acting as a role model and clinical expert.
- To be responsible for the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation, and evaluation of care, in accordance with Trust policies, and under the guidance of the senior clinical team.
- Be expected to integrate theoretical advances and evidence-based research findings into clinical practice.
- To engage in a relevant CPD program, accessing appropriate teaching opportunities and supporting the development of others.
- To support the education and provide clinical supervision of junior staff.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical policies, procedures and guidelines for the Trust.
- Ensure clinical incidents and risks are reported and investigated in line with policy whilst also sharing the learning.
- Act as a change agent and resource within the team whilst monitoring and evaluating standards of care.
- Ensure equality, diversity and patient rights are promoted.
- Be expected to ensure evidence-based practice and research is integrated into clinical practice throughout the department and create a culture of learning and development.
- To monitor, ensure compliance, and participate in departmental and national audits and display the results publicly.
- Adhere to the provisions of the Data Protection Act (1998) to maintain effective management of records ensuring Information Governance is maintained at all times.
- Comply with Trust Infection Prevention and Control policies to prevent harm to all.
- Ability to work in a variety of working conditions and adapt safe practice according to the environment.
- Will need to manage challenging situations such as family situations, emotionally distressed patients, and relatives e.g., breaking bad news, dealing with emergencies and being sensitive to the emotional needs of others.
- Will require diplomas in COPD and Asthma care. Should have completed the history taking and physical examination (HAPE) course and hold a qualification in non-medical prescribing.

- Evidence of extended clinical skills
- Evidence of ability to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, patients and carers
- Understanding of clinical governance and ability to assist in establishing systems
- Evidence of leadership in the area of specialist interest

- Significant post registration experience with previous experience in respiratory medicine environment

### EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

**Essential**

- Must be a registered Nurse in the UK on part 2 of the NMC register or equivalent Allied Health Professional
- Educated to degree level or equivalent
- COPD/asthma diploma/degree training/evidence of qualifications specific to respiratory medicine
- Independent nonmedical prescriber

**Desirable**

- Must have at least 2 years post registration experience at band 6
