The post is centred on Sunderland Royal Hospital. The department overs both elective and 'on call' commitments to hospitals south of the Tyne, including Shotley Bridge, South Tyneside and University Hospital of North Durham. It may be very occasionally necessary to visit hospitals in the surrounding area for surgical lists and to attend emergencies. This post is first on-call and working at the level of a Dental Core Trainee level 2 or previously know as a Senior House Officer. This post would be suitable for a dentally qualified candidate or a medically qualified candidate with an interest in a career in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The OMFS Department carries out a comprehensive range of oral and maxillofacial surgery, including oral and facial malignancy with microvascular reconstruction and their subsequent rehabilitation, facial deformity, facial hard and soft tissue trauma, salivary gland surgery, surgical dermatology and dento-alveolar surgery. There is formal induction and training for all new staff covering both OMFS and ENT work prior to commencing the post. This will be compulsory. There is cross cover with ENT for on-call.
