The Leicester Diabetes Centre (LDC) is the largest diabetes research group in the UK with a local, national and global reputation for excellence in clinical research and education. It has a multimillion-pound annual budget, over 160 staff employed through the University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) and the University of Leicester (UofL) and a portfolio of over 40 active trials.

The LDC is Co-Directed by 2 NIHR Senior Investigators who have a proactive and innovative approach to the on-going growth and development of both the Centre and its staff with a clear vision and strategy for the future.

The post is fixed term for 12 months initially. To apply candidates, need to hold a valid GMC Registration and have at least 4 years post registration,  with minimum 6  months NHS hands-on experience (clinical observer placements not eligible) and ideally experience in clinical research delivery.  The post is for a full-time position, but part-time/job share will be considered.

### Main duties of the job

LDC now has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and inspirational Clinical Research Physician (SAS) to join the LDC. They will be working with a friendly and experienced team of nurses, clinicians and clinical academics, and be responsible for the clinical care of research participants during a study.  This will include assessing participant eligibility against trial protocols, undertaking consent, medical examinations including exercise testing, muscle biopsies and assessment, reviewing clinical data and managing any adverse events and/or medical emergencies. It will also provide the opportunity to undergo supervised training and gain valuable experience in the development and implementation of patient and healthy volunteer-based research projects.

LDC’s research portfolio investigates new models of care for the prevention and management of diabetes and associated long-term conditions, such as obesity. LDC are renowned for research harnessing the power of lifestyle behaviours, such as physical activity and nutrition, within the prevention and management of diabetes, including ongoing work investigating how lifestyle therapies can be used in synergy with pharmaceutical therapies to optimise whole body health.

Funders include those from the NIHR, MRC, Charities and Industry, and its senior investigators hold, or lead the largest funding awards within the University of Leicester. The LDC hosts the Lifestyle Theme within the NIHR Leicester Biomedical Research Centre (BRC), a collaboration between the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL) and the University of Leicester, the Commercial Research Delivery Centre (CRDC) the East Midlands Applied Research Centre (ARC), and the Centre for Ethnic Health Research. It is located at Leicester General Hospital and encompasses a floor space of over 4000m2 which includes a state-of-the-art exercise and metabolic assessment lab, a dual-emission X-ray absorptiometry for the gold standard assessment of body composition, clinical assessment rooms, patient education facilities, large and small meeting rooms, and a 4/5 space day ward. In addition, it hosts a portfolio of patient and health care professional education and teaching through the National DESMOND and EDEN programmes along with international postgraduate courses.

### Experience
