The post is based at the Lister Hospital, Stevenage and is designed to provide a platform for a registrar level surgeon to advance their clinical as well as their research skills by registering for a higher degree through existing links with the University of Hertfordshire. The successful applicant will be engaged in ENT research, working towards a higher degree in ENT (MD or PhD). Our ENT department is research active and is currently recruiting patients in Otology, Rhinology and Head and Neck Surgery research studies. The main area of research will depend on the department’s research priorities and the successful applicant’s subspecialty of interest. There will also be a requirement to help support the research team of nurses to recruit patients into commercial clinical trials and registries that are ongoing. ### Main duties of the job Clinical Clinically, this is an excellent opportunity within the ENT unit at the Trust for the appointee to further their interest and surgical knowledge and skills. The ENT department performs regularly advanced ear operations (including bone conduction and middle ear implant work), advanced rhinology procedures (and use of Navigation), transoral robotic surgery, trans-nasal oesophagoscopy, and has the largest cohort of thyroid/parathyroid patients in Hertfordshire/ Bedfordshire. There are subspecialty clinics taking place daily (e.g hearing and balance, smell, thyroid and parathyroid, head and neck, paediatric) and different MDTs that the fellow will be expected to attend. The post-holder will be supervised in operating lists and clinics.The post holder will be part of an on-call rota (1 in 7 hot weeks, 1 in 9 out of hour on calls ).
