### Job overview

The Research & Development Team are looking for a dedicated individual to manage external and internal research engagement communications for the Royal Cornwall Hospitals in relation to the patient and public involvement & engagement (PPIE) activities and work with our clinicians, researchers and members of the public to facilitate and increase PPIE throughout the community.  The role will include promoting and protecting the reputation of the Research & Development Department within the Trust and to facilitate the delivery of effective communication with colleagues working across our hospitals.  The role would involve working with a wide range of audiences and uses different communication channels to keep messages relevant, appealing and informative.

### Main duties of the job

To provide an excellent research engagement service by carrying out and leading on a range of communications activities including PPIE in research across Cornwall

To improve and enhance the Trust’s internal and external communications in relation to research engagement and PPIE through a range of channels, producing written and video content, whilst engaging with the public

Promoting a positive research image of the Trust to staff, the media and key stakeholders, ensuring messages are communicated in an effective and timely manner.

### Skills

**Essential**

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent telephone manner
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to complete tasks, within given timescales
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues of all levels, internal and external, and members of the public
- Sound working knowledge and understand of social media
- Good organisational skills to ensure tasks and responsibilities are carried out efficiently, and to agreed deadlines
- Able to maintain a clear focus under pressure

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience of working in the specialist field of Communications / Public Relations and working with members of the public
- Experience of engaging the public in events and activities

**Desirable**

- Previous NHS experience
- Experience in designing and producing documents
- Experience of working on websites/intranet sites
- Experience of working on PPIE or engagement events

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Relevant degree or professional qualification in communications/public relations/journalism.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Competent computer skills
