Bradford Institute for Health Research does large epidemiological studies and works with local communities to deliver high impact research. Our data resources include Born In Bradford (www.borninbradford.nhs.uk), our flagship birth cohort study; Born In Bradford's Better Start, which is designed to evaluate early-life interventions; BiB4All, an ongoing study of new mothers based on consented data linkage;  and Connected Bradford, a whole-population linked database including health, social care, and education records.

Together these resources make Bradford a unique place to study the determinants of child health and effects of policy and healthcare interventions. We collaborate with national and international partners to study topics including childhood obesity, allergies and infections, mental health, and the urban environment.

### Main duties of the job

We are looking to appoint a research data analyst to support the development and analysis of a Child health research dataset in Bradford, the main data resource will be Connected West Yorkshire, a whole-population linked database including health, social care, and education records. You will be responsible for preparing data for research use, supporting colleagues to do good quality research, quantitative  analysis and writing up of research papers and in the planning of new research studies.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This role will be based within the Connected West Yorkshire team who will provide technical and data analytics support and link with BIBBS research group who specialize in early years development and child health. We are a collaborative and inclusive team that does high impact applied research. We aim to improve the health of people in Bradford and contribute important new findings to knowledge about determinants of health. We support all of our colleagues to develop their research interests and skills and enjoy their work."

### Skills

**Essential**

- Highly proficient in using R/Python to prepare data for analysis
- Able to construct SQL queries to extract data from relational databases
- Able to produce reusable program code in at least one common statistical or database package e.g., R, SQL
- Preparation and presentation of statistical reports and analyses
- Effective organisational skills, ability to work on multiple projects in parallel
- Accurate, methodological and pays attention to detail
- Able to prioritise own workload and work to deadlines
- Work effectively and flexibly within a multidisciplinary team
- Effective communication and presentation skills (written and oral)
- Skills in reviewing and summarising epidemiological literature
- Able to co-write papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals

**Desirable**

- Track record of peer-reviewed publications

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Knowledge of sources of relevant reference datasets
- Ability to offer appropriate statistical advice on a range of projects
- Willingness to keep abreast of new statistical techniques and methods
- Knowledge of, or a desire to learn, applied research in child health and development, health equity and/or epidemiology
- Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality

**Desirable**

- Understanding of clinical coding terminologies used in Primary and Secondary healthcare

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience of working with large data sets
- Experience of working with longitudinal cohort study data
- Experience of using/interrogating databases
- Experience of Microsoft Applications

**Desirable**

- Experience of quantitative data analysis and interpretation
- Evidence of independent work in a research or statistical environment
- Experience of using analytical tools and software for the purposes of preparing datasets in formats suitable for analysis by researchers and statisticians
- Experience of using SQL and Python

### Qualifications

- Postgraduate qualification in a subject with a major data analytics or research component, or equivalent experience
- Experience of working in a research environment
