Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has an established track record in initiating and delivering high-quality National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) portfolio studies.

The Research and Innovation Strategy is one of seven enabling strategies underpinning the Trust Strategy for 2021–2026.  This role is integral to the organisation’s ability to sustain and further develop its position and potential as a leading research‑active organisation.

This role provides specialist support to investigators in line with regulatory requirements, relevant legislation, Trust policies, and best practice. It requires a high level of expertise, autonomy, and effective communication, both written & verbal, to support the co‑ordination, administration, and data collection functions, ensuring effective research portfolio management. Expert knowledge of research governance is essential.

The role is responsible for facilitating expressions of interest, supporting the initiation, delivery, closure, and archiving of research studies, and co‑ordinating research activity.

The post-holder acts as a responsible signatory for Organisational Information Documents and maintains both local (WUTH) and national (EDGE) portfolio management systems.

The post-holder contributes to the smooth running of the Research Department, deputising for the Research Manager where required and providing guidance and support to members of the research team.

### Main duties of the job

Research Governance

Proactively identify research governance issues for the Trust to support timely review and resolution.

Communicate effectively with Trust, NIHR CRN, University, and Pharmaceutical Company staff at all levels to co-ordinate the identification of new studies and collaborations.

Independently manage study set-up, leading on ensuring studies are approved in a timely manner securing Division approvals and contract details before confirming Trust capacity and capability.

Co-ordination of amendments to on-going studies, monitoring and reporting to ensure NIHR CRN High Level Objectives (HLO) are met.

Ensure compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training  Lead for archiving in accordance with MHRA GCP Guidelines, DoH Records Management Code of Practice, study sponsor requirements and Trust SOPs.

Research databases Lead for local and national research databases, including EDGE. Provide training for investigators and Research Nurses in EDGE and local information management systems.

Study Support Supports local Principal Investigators and Research Nurses/Midwives.

National Institute for Health (NIHR) Research Passport Letters of Access (LoA) under the NIHR Research Passport Scheme for external researchers working within the Trust.

Finance Co-ordination of invoices in accordance with research study contracts.

Consent to Contact Co-ordination of consent to contact for research process.

Research meetings General Office Duties Deputise for the Research Manager.

### Qualifications, Specific Experinece & Training

**Essential**

- Undergraduate degree and post-graduate education (PG Diploma, MA OR MSC) or equivalent experience.
- Specialist knowledge of research governance (including GCP), procedures, and project management acquired through certification and experience in an NHS research environment
- Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams with experience to communicate, persuade, and train clinical staff
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook
- Current Good clinical Practice Training
