To work with the Vascular Access Lead, medical, surgical and nursing team in providing expert advice and support for renal patients within the trust.

Facilitate the planning and delivery of vascular access care.

To work flexibly with or alongside Vascular Access Lead, Renal Consultants, Vascular Consultants, Consultant Radiologist and other teams.

### Main duties of the job

Renal Vascular Access Nurse Specialist provide a structured and multidisciplinary approach in preparing patients with advanced CKD (stages 4–5) to start haemodialysis, promoting self-management, optimizing care, supporting informed decision-making regarding vascular access options, providing expert advice and teaching patients/carers on AV Fistulae care, post operative care and monitoring using ultrasound, managing complications, referring for surgical or radiological intervention, consenting for radiological intervention and making reasonable decision to start haemodialysis using AV Fistulae.

### Knowledge, Experience and Skills

**Essential**

- Substantial experience in NHS
- Able to manage or conduct Nurse-Led Clinic
- Competent in venepuncture and cannulation

**Desirable**

- Knowledge in Vascular Access for haemodialysis
- Experience in care of AVFistulae and Central Venous catheter
- Able to use Ultrasound for assessment and cannulation

### Education, Training and Qualification

**Essential**

- NMC Registration
- Renal Course/ Renal Specialist Course

**Desirable**

- Nurse-led Ultrasound Course or equivalent

### Communication and Interpersonal Skills

**Essential**

- Evidence of Good communication skills
