Outpatients is the window to the hospital for many patients experiencing their hospital journey. We are a busy team who support a variety of specialities in our Outpatient clinic rooms. The role of the Outpatient nurse is to provide help and support to the patients and service users. The nurse will ensure a smooth flow through the outpatient setting, starting with the correct preparation of clinic areas, use of good communication skills, undertaking of physiological measurements, and acting as a chaperone within the clinic setting. We are predominantly a Monday Friday service covering clinics from 8am-6pm. Key responsibilities include: - Assessing patients' physical, psychological, and social needs upon attendance at the clinic. - Preparing patients for consultations, examinations, investigations, and procedures. - Monitoring patients before, during, and after procedures, identifying and responding to any deterioration in condition. - Performing clinical procedures such as venepuncture, cannulation, wound care, dressings, ECGs, injections, and specimen collection, in accordance with competence and local policies. Administering medications safely and accurately in line with legislation, Trust policies, and professional standards. - Providing health education, advice, and support to patients and carers to promote self-management and informed decision-making. - Supporting consultants, specialist nurses, and the multidisciplinary team during clinics and treatment sessions.
