The Nelson Day Unit at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic Registered Nurse to join our friendly Ophthalmology team. This is a busy day-case unit caring for patients having a range of specialised local anaesthetic eye procedures.

You’ll be part of a supportive multi-disciplinary team with a strong focus on patient experience, and safety, where no two days are the same.

### Main duties of the job

As a Registered Nurse in the Nelson Day Unit you will work as part of the multi-disciplinary Ophthalmic Team, delivering safe, high-quality pre- and post-operative care for patients undergoing day-case ophthalmic surgery.

You will be responsible for direct patient care and ensuring patient flow and theatre readiness, ensuring excellent communication with patients, carers and the wider team.

Key responsibilities include:

- Preparing patient records/notes and checking documentation is complete and accurate prior to procedures.
- Supporting pre-operative preparation and post-operative recovery, including observations and assessments.
- Following training, perform specialist eye examinations using specialised equipment.
- Escalating concerns promptly.
- Maintaining a clean, safe environment and preparing/stocking clinical areas and equipment in line with local and Trust policy.
- Providing reassuring, person-centered care, explaining what will happen next and helping patients feel informed and supported.

- Ensure practice is in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and work within limits of competence.
- To have successfully completed the Trust’s preceptorship programme.
- Maintain a high standard of nursing care applying evidence-based practice.
- Carry out assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of nursing care without supervision.
- Carry out the daily personal care of patients.
- Maintain accurate records of all care given.
- Update patient administration systems e.g. PAS to ensure real time data collection and confidentiality.
- To effectively use information technology for the benefit of patient care in accordance with the Trust’s Cyber Code of Conduct.
- To maintain confidentiality of information (written, verbal, electronic), whilst being aware of the Freedom for Information Act.
- To promptly and effectively communicate relevant changes in patient status to the multi-disciplinary team.
