Our Critical Care Services is offering a great opportunity to ambitious and motivated Band 5 Staff Nurses to explore a career in critical care and to transform the patient care.

You will be based in the Critical Care Department at Hinchingbrooks Hospital which is a 10 bed combined intensive and high dependency care unit treating around 650 patients a year. Cross site work at Peterborough City Hospital in Peterborough may be required.

You will be joining a friendly and supportive team in delivering a high quality patient centred care in a busy, challenging and complex environment.

You should have NMC registration and 6 months post qualification experience within an acute clinical setting.

In exchange for your services, our excellent clinical educators’ team will provide you with a comprehensive induction and training programme where theoretical knowledge will be combine with practical skills required for you to perform at the best of your capabilities.

### Main duties of the job

Your practice will be evidenced based and supported by critical care guidelines, policies and competencies. You will ensure critically ill patients receive safe and individualised care by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating their care. You will maintain accurate records and documentation appropriate to care delivery in accordance with information governance requirements.

You will communicate clearly and accurately with colleagues and shift leader about clinical condition of patients while making clinical judgements involving complex information, within limitations of skills and knowledge.

You will maintain professional relationships and excellent communication with patients and relatives, ensuring there needs are met with sensitivity and empathy. You will conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times, acting as a positive role model to peers and junior staff.

You will ensure your own personal and professional development as well as supervise and teach junior members of staff

- Practice in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Code of Conduct for nurses, midwives and health visitors.
- To ensure that the rights, dignity and confidentiality of the patient are protected at all times.
- Act as the patient’s advocate, communicate and actively contribute to multidisciplinary decision making regarding patient care.
- Communicate openly with all staff and disciplines, promote and ensure principles of good teamwork and harmonious working relationships are maintained within the department.
- Prioritise patient care and workload effectively whilst providing support for both junior and senior staff.
- Maintain professional relationships and excellent communication with patients and relatives, ensuring there needs are met with sensitivity and empathy.
- Work effectively as a multidisciplinary team to ensure standards of care are maintained
- Working within the senior nursing team, take responsibility for unit development projects, link nurse activities or rolling out of Trust initiatives to colleagues.
- Be proactive in the identification of personal developmental and learning needs. To be self-directed in seeking out and using resources to meet such needs.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of a working environment conducive to learning, peer support and team development.
- Facilitate others within a learning experience and act as mentor/assessor to junior staff, pre and post registration students.
- Provide health information to patients and significant others based on as assessment of need for information and in context of the current situation.
- Contribute to evidence based practice through own learning and professional updating. Contribute to the dissemination and implementation of research findings.
- Take charge of a cohort of patients within the department if required following completion of internal development programme, supervising other staff and ensuring patient safety in the absence of Sister or deputy.
- Ensure compliance with the Trust’s Health and Safety and Risk Management Policies and procedures. Maintain the health, safety and welfare of staff, patients or other third parties visiting the department or general areas of the Trust.
