### Job overview

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Band 5 Nurse to join the Chemotherapy Suite.   The Maple Unit is a day unit situated within the Rugby St Cross hospital  and cares for adults receiving treatment for haematology and oncology; this includes Systemic Anti Cancer Treatment (Chemotherapy, Immunotherapy), supportive treatments including blood products and management of central venous access devices.

The unit is well supported by the multidisciplinary team and a robust training programme is in place for those new to the area.

Applications are welcomed from those who have good time management skills and thrive in a fast paced environment.

Please note this post is not suitable for applicants who are required to undertake the OSCE training programme. Applicants who do not have current valid UK NMC registration will not be considered for this post.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

### Main duties of the job

- Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct.
- Contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times.
- Effectively communicate information regarding clinical decisions, policy and care pathways to patients/carers and the multi-professional team including situations where difficulties in comprehension occur.
- A competent practitioner, teaching, assessing, supervising and providing mentorship appropriate students or junior staff.
- Responsible for clinical assessment of a group of patients and management of a team, ensuring appropriate care is planned, implemented and evaluated, involving patients and users.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- Organisation of cross-departmental/organisational activities to support patient care pathways.
- Demonstrate technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient care management including; patient observations; equipment management and administration of agreed invasive tests/procedures.
- Utilise and ensure others utilise information and IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, workforce and resource data.
- Manage expected (and occasional unexpected) clinical events requiring high but unpredictable levels of physical effort according to patient dependency/clinical need, referring to a senior member of staff where appropriate e.g. in an unexpected event.
- Support patients, carers and others during difficult situations arising in the clinical area, e.g. imparting bad news or following an unexpected event.
- Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards.

## Person Specification

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- - Knowledge of the Professional Code of Conduct
- Able to apply evidence-based practice.
- Awareness of clinical governance & a commitment to clinical supervision and staff development

**Desirable**

- - An understanding of current issues relating to the NHS

### Experience

**Essential**

- - Registered Nurse with recent NHS nursing experience.
- Post-preceptorship experience

**Desirable**

- - Experience working within Oncology and/or Haematology services.
- Experience caring for patients undergoing systemic anti-cancer treatment (SACT).

### Qualification

**Essential**

- - Current Professional Registration Diploma in Nursing
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- Teaching and Assessing Qualification or willingness to undertake.
- First Level Degree
- Competent in venepuncture, cannulation and administration of intravenous medications.
- Completion of preceptorship in UK

**Desirable**

- - SACT Passport completed and maintained
- Competent in the care and management of central venous access devices (CVADs).
