The successful applicant must show a commitment to high quality patient care and excellent team work along with a genuine interest in the care of patients undergoing invasive procedures.  It will also be required to work in partnership with other teams within the Theatre Central cluster, supporting staff, students, patients and relatives.

Children’s Theatres currently has 3 Theatres, day of surgery admissions, a recovery /discharge area, and preoperative assessment.  We are situated on level 2 within Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust. Specialities covered within Children’s Theatres include Urology, ENT, Plastics, Maxillo-facial, Orthopaedics, General Surgery, community dental, Ophthalmology, etc.  A mixture of day case, in-patient, elective and emergency work is undertaken within the unit.

Plymouth Hospitals is a large acute trust in the Southwest of England, situated on the Devon and Cornwall border and provides perioperative care for elective and emergency patients across the region. The hospital is a designated Trauma Centre and tertiary referral centre for Neurological and Cardiac patients. The trust is a teaching hospital with close links to the Peninsula Medical School and the University of Plymouth.

Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.

### Main duties of the job

Working within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct/HPC Professional Guidelines,  be responsible for one’s own professional conduct and monitor those aspects within the theatre team

Deputise on a rotational basis for the nominated cluster Team Leader

To actively influence the overall efficiency and development of the theatre service.  Working with Senior Team leader, Clinical Services Manager and Theatre Operational team.

Working with the Senior Team Leader, identify and develop clinical changes to working practice and working in different ways to enhance the service provision.

Provide daily leadership and clinical support for designated recovery.  Maintaining 85% clinical and 15% managerial role within designated theatre including managing theatre suite out of hours.

To work with the Division Matron on improvement initiatives.

To work in collaboration with the Senior team leader on the procurement of supplies and equipment within the designated area.

To work with Theatre Central Stores team on stock management initiatives.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- Responsible for day-to-day workload planning including off duty, stores and stock control, utilising resources effectively and meeting budgetary constraints. -  Commitment to evidence-based practice and clinical excellence to improve patient centred care and service delivery.  Promotion of continuous quality improvements. - Undertake research and clinically lead the audit process. -  Participate in risk management and Clinical Governance issues, reporting any untoward incidences to Cluster Team Leader

- Maintain accurate staff annual leave and sickness records.

- - Conduct annual staff appraisals and develop personal development plans for Band 5 and Band 3 staff within area of responsibility. - Provide a supportive working environment for staff,  ensuring opportunities for development and education are identified.

- Assist as a panel member in recruitment and selection.

-  To update and facilitate induction programmes for new staff members.

- Support the theatre cluster team leader in ensuring that staffing establishments and skill mix are appropriate for clinical demands.

- Take responsibility for clinical standards and ensure that  procedures and protocols are followed.

- Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the service.

- Maintain a safe environment, conducive to high patient and staff morale, achieved by leadership, personal example and involvement in the department.

-   Act as Mentor/Facilitator for their team, offering advice, guidance and support as appropriate.

- - Provide a flexible approach to duty rosters and undertake any duties required to fulfil the needs of the service.

- Be available for on-call duties, weekends, night duty and late shifts on a rostered basis and under negotiation, ensuring the 24-hour emergency service is maintained

### Qualifications

- RN/ODP
- Registered with NMC/ HPC
- completed a recognised management programme or demonstrable experience

**Desirable**

- Degree or equivalent demonstrable experience Trainer/Assessor/ Theatre educator or relevant educational course
