Enthusiastic Radiotherapy Support Technician wanted. This is an ENGINEERING position. We are looking for a highly motivated support Technician to join our Technical Services team in the Medical Physics Department at the renowned Cambridge University Hospital. The team provides specialised engineering services for highly complex, high value Radiotherapy equipment, focussing mainly on Linear Accelerators and their associated imaging equipment, but including support for other radiotherapy equipment including two CT scanners, an Ortho voltage unit, a HDR brachytherapy unit, an offsite Veterinary linear accelerator, and other associated dosimetry equipment and radiotherapy dedicated ICT systems. This modern multivendor department will provide you with an interesting and varied challenge every day Partnering other team members, you will play an active role in the technical support of medical equipment at the cutting edge of technology. You will be working with high precision to keep our fleet of eight treatment machines and associated equipment in top condition. It is essential you have a Degree or equivalent minimum qualification (HNC/HND) in a Clinical Technology speciality. To enable you to fully engage with this opportunity, specialist technical experience on the maintenance and repair of dosimetry or radiotherapy equipment would be an advantage.

### Main duties of the job

You should have excellent teamwork and communication skills and be able to communicate complex issues across multiple staff groups. Registered (or eligible to register) on the Register of Clinical Technologists is also desirable.

- Competency in the basic operation, application, quality assurance, calibration verification, functionality testing and maintenance of radiotherapy treatment machines including linear accelerators and other equipment,  including competency in the repair of complex electro-mechanical mechanisms to component level.
- Management of radiotherapy equipment including an understanding of relevant safety standards, hazards, health & safety legislation, and radiation protection.
- The use and application of a quality management system in relation to radiotherapy systems and practice.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Radiotherapy Physics (which is part of the department of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering) provides a comprehensive Physics service to the Addenbrooke’s Oncology Centre ensuring the safe and accurate use of high dose ionising radiation to treat patients with cancer, whilst maintaining a safe environment for other patients, visitors, and staff.

Our physicists, technicians and radiographers work closely with Oncology staff to provide a wide range of scientific and technical advice and support for all radiotherapy treatments. Routine clinical work includes radiotherapy treatment planning and related dosimetry, the provision of brachytherapy, and the manufacture of immobilisation and shielding equipment for patients. Extensive support is provided to radiotherapy equipment. This incorporates the design of facilities; the management of computer systems, the design and management of software; and the commissioning, servicing, and quality control of Linear Accelerators, Orthovoltage units, Brachytherapy units and CT scanners. All work and related dosimetry are monitored and assured to nationally and internationally agreed specifications and legal requirements.

We are also responsible for providing radiotherapy physics advice and technical support to two University Departments (Veterinary Medicine and Pathology).
