Job overview

Are you a newly qualified or about to qualify Therapy Radiographer looking to take their early steps in your Radiotherapy career? The Trust is delighted to invite applications from enthusiastic, forward-thinking radiographers with a keen interest in delivering radiotherapy services and a passion for team working and service development. We have a fantastic team approach, and love to develop all of our staff and will give the opportunity to rotate through all areas of our department including Treatment, Pre Treatment, Brachytherapy and Review.    We want you to achieve and grow your potential as a Radiographer.

The Royal Surrey Cancer Centre is focused on providing excellent patient pathways and patient-centred care. We strive to continuously evolve to reflect the technical advances within Radiotherapy. To that end, we have recently completed the replacement of two of our Varian TrueBeams with a Varian ETHOS and a Varian Halcyon at our satellite centre.  These units are the first in the NHS for in-bore SGRT and we are scheduled to be the first Centre to implement Hypersight later this year. Surface guided radiotherapy system installation will further improve the accuracy of treatment and present the opportunity for tattoo-less radiotherapy.  Our patients benefit from access to two ETHOS units, one Halcyon and four TrueBeams across our two radiotherapy centres.

Main duties of the job

The purpose of this role is to undertake radiotherapy interventions to the highest professional and technical standards, working with Medical, Radiography, Physics and Administrative colleagues.

As a Radiotherapy Radiographer working as part of a radiotherapy team, you will be under the supervision of Team Leader Radiographers. You will undertake all elements of the treatment pathway including the preparing and delivering of radiotherapy treatment using highly specialist equipment.  The post holder will be required to work in all areas of the department and have a flexible approach to rota changes. As a key element of the role, the post holder will provide information, education, practical and emotional support to patients and carers during their radiotherapy  episode. The Royal Surrey Cancer Centre Radiotherapy Department is based at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford and has a satellite service based at East Surrey Hospital in Redhill. This post is based at East Surrey hospital but will include working at both sites

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We have three planning CT scanners, an exceptional Brachytherapy service which provides HDR, LDR and Papillon kV contact treatment; as well as an Xstrahl superficial machine.

Our main site is based at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford and our satellite centre at East Surrey Hospital in Redhill.  Guildford gives easy access to the beautiful North & South Downs, is an hour from the coast and has great transport links to the surrounding counties of Berkshire, Hampshire and Sussex.   The city offers cultural diversity, is home to the University of Surrey and it is great place to reside and explore.

Our satellite centre in Redhill is closely integrated with our main site. Situated within easy access to London, and surrounded by beautiful Surrey countryside. It offers you the opportunity to work in a smaller team and broaden your clinical skills with the chance to follow a patient throughout their treatment pathway. This is an excellent opportunity for CPD, which is not always achievable in larger departments and establishments.

Your wellbeing is important to us, and as such, we offer clinical staff a 9-day fortnight working pattern giving you the opportunity to have a fixed day off every two weeks. You will, no matter what your grade banding, be empowered to learn, grow and progress your career.  We offer a variety of CPD opportunities and have strong links with Macmillan giving us access to valuable learning to ensure that our staff are the best that they can be.

The post could be based at either of our sites and both permanent and fixed term contract opportunities are available.

We look forward to meeting with should you feel that you would like to become part of our Royal Surrey Cancer Centre team.
