### Main duties of the job

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Band 7 Psychosexual Therapist to join the Psychosexual Therapy Outpatient Service at the Chandos Clinic. The post holder will work autonomously as an independent practitioner, delivering specialist assessment and evidence‑based psychosexual therapy to individuals and couples presenting with complex sexual difficulties. The role involves managing a specialist caseload, maintaining high standards of clinical documentation, and providing expert advice, consultation, and clinical support to colleagues, patients, and multidisciplinary teams. The successful candidate will demonstrate leadership within the service, adhere to Trust policies, and actively contribute to service development, quality improvement, and future service innovations.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Psychosexual Counsellor delivers a specialist psychosexual therapy service within the Sexual Dysfunction Service at the Chandos Clinic (City Hospital site). Working autonomously within Trust and professional governance, the post holder assesses and treats individuals and couples, reviews outcomes, and supports safe, high-quality service delivery.

- Provide specialist assessment and psychosexual therapy for individuals and couples, including formulation and review of progress.

- Develop, implement and review evidence-based treatment plans, including follow-up, discharge and onward referral as appropriate.
- Communicate complex and sensitive information with empathy and provide clear verbal/written updates to referrers and relevant professionals.
- Work collaboratively with the MDT and partner agencies, contributing specialist advice to support coordinated care.
- Maintain confidentiality and accurate clinical records; work within safeguarding and Mental Capacity Act requirements and escalate concerns in line with policy.

Contribute to clinical governance, audit/service evaluation, and ongoing professional development (CPD/supervision) in line with COSRT standards

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of particular psychological therapies.
- Significant experience of working within a sexual and relationship difficulties service.
- Highly developed specialist knowledge and experience of managing own caseload.

**Desirable**

- NHS experience in a related field
- Experience in research/audit

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Academic qualification at postgraduate diploma level
- Specialist qualification in Sex & Relationship Therapy
- Registered with College of Sexual & Relationship Therapists (COSRT)
- Continuing professional development to maintain registration.
- Access regular supervision to support clinical practice

**Desirable**

- COSRT Accreditation

- Defuse distressing or unpredicted emotional circumstances and deal with mental health issues and sexual abuse
- Specialist Advice with other professionals.

- Review options and select appropriate therapeutic treatment

- Work autonomously within Trust policies and COSRT code of ethics.
- Effectively manage own caseload

- Ability to develop a therapeutic relationship with client(s) with complex sex and/or relationship problems.
- Negotiate and mediate in potential areas of conflict in order to achieve common goals
- Regular case discussion with senior colleagues
