### Job overview

The post-holder will contribute to the achievement of the research strategy of the Mental Health Mission Midlands Translation Centre.

The postholder will assist in clinical service provision for the CALM service, in providing comprehensive psychiatric assessments, offering advice on treatment, and will help recruit potential candidates onto ongoing research studies within BSMHFT.

The postholder will also work with UoB Mood disorders Lead (Prof Marwaha) to deliver a range of ongoing clinical trials, and to develop novel treatments for mood disorders. There will be extensive opportunity to develop skill sets in keeping with academic training and moving towards ACF/ACL and PhD funding if that is desired. The postholder will also have opportunity to attend appropriate educational activities and will be expected to work towards to registration for a higher degree and will be supported to apply for further funding.

It is anticipated that the post will involve up to 50% time equivalent for clinical work (within the translational centre) and at least 50% time equivalent of research work.

Provide psychiatry research support by contributing to a translational depression research service, recruiting patients from the clinic into a large cohort study using existing digital platforms, completing medical and research assessment schedules (with training provided), supporting ongoing randomised controlled trials in mood disorders, and offering medical input for neuromodulation and ketamine treatments for individuals with treatment resistant depression..

The post holder will be supported and supervised by Professor Steven Marwaha and Consultant Psychiatrist colleagues and will be encouraged to maintain formal links with the University of Birmingham and participate in Mood Disorders research activities.

## Person Specification

### Scoring

**Essential**

- MBBS / MBChB or equivalent medical qualification
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment.
- Completion of UK Foundation Programme year 2 or equivalent
- Minimum 6 months Psychiatry post in the NHS
- Understanding and first-hand experience of research methods outside of degree course and processes relevant to mental health
- Strong knowledge of Good Clinical Practice
- Analytical and problem-solving capability
- Ability to communicate complex information with clarity, both verbally and in writing
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to get on well with colleagues
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent IT skills
- Strong interest in mental health disorders
- Ability to work towards departmental and institute objectives
- Interest in clinical academic/research career progression

**Desirable**

- Postgraduate qualification e.g. Masters in a relevant mental health degree or MRCPsych Part A-C at appropriate level, or equivalent
- In good standing with GMC. No restrictions or conditions on practice
- Research publication and grant writing
