The GIRFT (Getting it Right First Time) Projects Directorate at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital is looking for a full-time, home based, project manager to join a team delivering GIRFT and related projects for a range of customers. The projects are commercial and are sourced from customers who do not come under the umbrella of the nationally funded GIRFT programme in NHSE. Customers range from independent sector providers to national health services and can be UK or overseas based.

This is a key role in the development of the projects department of GIRFT PD, which was formally set up after the main GIRFT England programme moved from the RNOH to NHSE in mid-2021. The role will be demanding and exciting, as you will play a major part in the growth of GIRFT PD, delivering high quality projects for a range of customers in the UK and possibly overseas.

The Project Manager is responsible for the planning and delivery of projects for GIRFT Projects @ RNOH. They will co-ordinate and deliver a series of structured, quality projects, using appropriate tools and resources to deliver against the proposal expectations, including Artificial Intelligence tools, to improve productivity. Projects are all in the healthcare sector and are data driven and clinically led.

### Main duties of the job

Project Management

Lead on the drafting of development proposals, terms of reference and related content and costings of a suite of commercial Projects.

Identify key activities and associated costs, securing quotes from third party suppliers for project work.

Develop comprehensive and cohesive plans (including comms and engagement plans), consistent with project timetables

Manage client relations to achieve alignment on scopes of work for potential projects, ensuring all project approvals are in place before commencement.

Ensure that projects maintain business focus, have clear authority and that the context, including risks, are actively managed.

Identify, assess and manage the main project priorities including the development of all project resources

Pro-actively manage stakeholders, resolving any conflicts through facilitation or other appropriate mechanisms.

Deliver projects on time, to quality standards and to agreed costs

Lead on organising peer review visits whether virtual or face to face,

Design, develop and deliver webinars for clients

Deal appropriately with very sensitive information about performance and change within each of the project areas.

Use Artificial Intelligence tools to improve productivity

Leadership

Responsible for the line management of admin support where required. This includes all aspects of management such as the management of sickness absence, appraisals, performance, disciplinary and grievance.

Responsible for undertaking appraisal and personal development including progressing any disciplinary or capability issues.

Shared responsibility for the recruitment of team staff

Forge close positive working relationships, to support an effective matrix approach to achieve all project objectives.

Managing third parties to ensure deliverables are met in a timely manner and within budget.

Organisational Skills

Organise and lead stakeholder meetings, chairing as appropriate, and note key discussions and agreed actions

Prepare and produce updates for key stakeholder meetings

Lead on the coordination of workshops for multiple client/suppliers to maximise outputs.

Communication and Engagement

Work closely on each project with a variety of key stakeholders in a variety of roles and expertise.

Communicate effectively with others, employing skills to motivate, negotiate and influence key peers and stakeholders in line with project priorities

Produce a range/suite of comms and engagement products to meet the needs of the project deliverables including interactive sessions, written and verbal updates etc.

Communicate with senior executive clients and internal colleagues at all levels on a regular basis throughout the project lifecycle.

Financial and Physical Resources

Contribute to the detailed costings for each project.

Oversee the budget spend for assigned projects, escalating any   potential over-spend to the Commercial Director.

Coordinate invoice payments with the RNOH finance team for all related expenditure.

Track relevant finance information relating to projects to ensure we accurately track progress of payments from/to RNOH, clients and suppliers.

Maintain update of all associated project costs and meet with Commercial Director/Finance on a regular basis to provide a progress update and agree any actions from information shared.

## Person Specification

### Knowledge, Training & Experience

**Essential**

- Masters level or able to demonstrate equivalent experience
- Significant experience of project management including working with others using a project management approach
- An understanding and knowledge of the workings of the NHS and the challenges it faces
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, including report writing and presentations

**Desirable**

- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- Experience of working within a multi-agency environment

### Communication & Relationship Skills

**Essential**

- Able to build and sustain relationships at all levels in an organisation., actively involving stakeholders where appropriate

**Desirable**

- Experience of working in a remote team
- Experience of managing people
- Able to coordinate regular updates and demonstrate a good understanding and knowledge of a diverse range of projects
