At NICE, HealthTech covers non-medicine technologies such as diagnostics, medical devices and digital tools, including artificial intelligence, used to diagnose, monitor, predict, treat and manage health conditions. Interventional procedures involve making an incision, a puncture or entry into a body cavity, or using ionising, electromagnetic or acoustic energy. Our Topic Delivery teams work with HealthTech committees to develop recommendations for the NHS. For HealthTech products, recommendations are informed by clinical and cost effectiveness; for interventional procedures, they are based on efficacy and safety. The programme also delivers guidance for the National HealthTech Access Programme, a partnership between NICE, DHSC, NHS England, MHRA and the Office for Life Sciences. This approach will expand NICEs Technology Appraisals programme to incorporate health technologies. This means that like medicines, a small selection of high-impact technologies will be reimbursed and made available across the entire health service. Our independent committees are standing advisory committees who meet once a month to develop its recommendations.
