### Job overview

We have funding for a one year secondment for a Principal Genetic Counsellor for one day a week to support the STP MSC Genomic Counselling. The postholder will take a lead role in EDI on the MSc programme and support research within the GC team. We welcome genetic counsellor applicants with a PhD and/or research experience.

The postholder will have academic sessions to support co-lead of modules on the MSc Genomic Sciences (Genomic Counselling) and contribute to updating modules, setting assignments and marking. The post holder will join the academic programme team for the MSc.

## Person Specification

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- First degree (in genetics, nursing, or biological/social sciences)
- Professional qualification (STP Genomic Counsellor training or MSc genetic counselling, RGN, etc)
- Registered Genetic Counsellor GCRB / HCPC (or overseas equivalent)

**Desirable**

- Approved GCRB Sign off Mentor
- Counselling certificate or diploma

### Knowledge and Experience

**Essential**

- Significant experience in genetic counselling with experience of managing an individual caseload
- Mentoring and supervision of genetic counsellors
- Excellent communication and counselling skills
- Experience of the STP programme in genomic counselling
- Academic experience, teaching and/or research
- Ability to work autonomously and manage an independent caseload
- Excellent managerial, leadership and organisational skills
- Maintain Registration with GCRB / HCPC or equivalent overseas Registration Board.

**Desirable**

- Experience of leading and managing a team
- Experience of audit and service improvement
- Ability to teach/educate professionals and families
