### Job overview

Our Vaccination Nurse will work as part of a dynamic team delivering a flexible, safe and effective vaccination service for pregnant women and children across the remit of Torbay and South Devon Foundation Trust.

You will deliver the vaccination in pregnancy service, providing pertussis, Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and seasonal influenza, vaccines to all pregnant women and the neonatal BCG vaccine up to 16 years of age following a negative Mantoux test if appropriate. All appropriate records must be completed.

The service runs through regular appointments. We run regular clinics away from the general hospital to ensure a service that is more accessible to all. You will also be involved in the promotion of vaccinations and screening in pregnancy and support staff to increase awareness of healthy pregnancy choices to our maternity service users.

### Main duties of the job

- Perform robust health pre-assessments including-but not exclusive to- previous reactions to vaccination, immunisation history followed by administering vaccines with consent.
- Address any concerns and ensure consent and clinical assessment is completed and recorded within maternity records prior to vaccination
- Promote healthy living choices in relation to safe pregnancy
- Recognise and respond as needed, to any medical emergency. This may include helping a patient with their breathing if they have an allergic reaction to the vaccine.
- Work with NHS colleagues to deliver a vaccination service, including escalating problems outside your scope of training to an appropriate person

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

## Person Specification

### Knowledge and experience

**Essential**

- Computer literacy to enable NIVS/RAVS and Systmone notifications and appropriate documentation
- Recognise and manage Anaphylaxis
- Competent to assess individuals for suitability for vaccination, identify any contraindications or precautions, obtain informed consent (or ‘best interests’ decision in accordance with the Mental Capacity Act 2005) and to discuss issues related to vaccination
- Familiar with vaccine products and alert to changes in the Summary of Product Characteristics (SPC), should it become licensed, or the Regulation 174 Information for UK Healthcare Professionals for the vaccine and familiar with the national recommendations for the use of this vaccine

- Previous vaccination experience

### Qualifications and Training

**Essential**

- Current NMC registration
- Undertaken appropriate training for working for supply/administration of medicines
- Authorised by name as an approved practitioner under the current terms
- Immunisation – Legal Aspects (and Assessment), Vaccine Storage (and Assessment), Vaccine Administration (and Assessment)
- General Vaccination update non COVID-19
- Basic life support (Both Online & face to face modules) – to be able to respond appropriately to immediate adverse reactions
- IM Training (within past 12 months)
- Evidence of CPD

**Desirable**

- Driving Licence
