### Job summary

These roles are for newly qualified Midwives, registered with the NMC, looking for a supportive preceptorship programme to develop and enhance their knowledge and skills as part of a proactive and supportive multi-professional team. We have some permanent posts and some fixed term posts available in our units in both Exeter and Barnstaple. Our aim will be to support and develop midwives rotating between the antenatal/postnatal ward and delivery suite as we support families using our services during pregnancy, labour and postpartum. An NHS placement as a Midwifery student in the last 24 months is essential.

The Exeter Unit has approx 3,500 births per annum and Barnstaple has approx 1,400 babies born each year. Homebirths are supported on both sites and the Exeter unit has an alongside birth unit too. All our staff are committed to delivering high, quality midwifery led care, along with achieving the highest possible patient experience.

Our preceptorship programme (Acorn to Oak) is a joint programme between the two sites, with an emphasis on providing a supportive environment for newly qualified midwives to develop and utilise their knowledge and skills. There are 6 study days, alternating between both sites, where we meet together as a group, to provide peer support, undertake problem solving, management skills and suggestions for self care as well as looking at the wider healthcare issues impacting on Maternity services. Preceptees are also supported to undertake a Quality Improvement Project as part of this course .You will be well supported by a dedicated and highly motivated multi professional team, and a strong investment in your continued training, development, and career progression.

In addition we run regular multi professional training for our staff to ensure their knowledge and skills are continuously updated.

Working Pattern: The job includes working days 07:30-20:00, and nights 19:30 -08:00 on a rotational basis to meet the needs of the service.

Candidates appointed to the preceptorship posts in North Devon via this process may commence their preceptorship in Exeter. It is envisaged they will then transfer to North Devon as appropriate within the strategic plan.
