### Job overview

The post offers excellent exposure to high volume, complex trauma within a regional Major Trauma Centre, with opportunities to develop operative experience and independent decision making in preparation for consultant practice. The RVI manages both paediatric and adult trauma, treating around 100 open fractures per year and 30-40 pelvic injuries. The unit also offers exposure to limb reconstruction, including circular frame application and management with opportunities for hands on involvement in deformity correction, bone loss, and complex trauma reconstruction.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated post-CCT surgeon with strong experience in orthopaedic trauma and a keen interest in major trauma care. They will demonstrate advanced clinical skills in major trauma management, sound decision making in high pressure environments, and a commitment to multidisciplinary teamworking. They will have relevant experience in orthopaedic trauma, excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach to teaching, research, and service development.

## Person Specification

### Teaching

**Essential**

- Experience of supervising junior staff.
- Ability to teach clinical skills.

### Education and Qualifications

**Essential**

- Primary Medical Qualification.
- Full GMC registration.
- Post CCT Trauma & Orthopaedics and on GMC specialist register at time of commencing post.
- Current ATLS certification (or equivalent)

### Clinical Skills and Knowledge

**Essential**

- NHS experience.
- Good history & examination skills.
- Able to formulate a working diagnosis.
- Able to order appropriate investigations.
- Image interpretation relevant to practice.
- Knows when to appropriately seek assistance from a senior colleague.
