Band 5 Rotational Podiatrist – Acute & Community Services

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is excited to offer a new and innovative Band 5 Rotational Podiatrist opportunity. These permanent posts have been designed to provide newly qualified and early-career podiatrists with a unique opportunity to gain experience across both our Acute Hospital and Community Foot Health services.

Working across Lambeth, Southwark and our hospital sites, you will develop a diverse clinical skillset whilst being supported by experienced clinicians, and multidisciplinary teams. This rotational role offers exposure to a wide range of patient groups and clinical environments, providing an excellent foundation for future career progression.

Within our Community Foot Health service, you will experience and have exposure to caseloads including wound care, musculoskeletal presentations, nail surgery and domiciliary care. You will undertake regular home visits using Trust vehicles and be provided with remote IT equipment to support agile working.

Within our Acute Foot Health service, you gain valuable experience working alongside multidisciplinary teams managing high-risk foot complications. Opportunities include exposure to busy acute clinics, inpatient care, diabetic foot MDTs, vascular pathways, offloading and casting techniques and negative pressure wound therapy (VAC).

You will receive comprehensive induction, supervision and ongoing professional development throughout your rotations.

### Main duties of the job

As a Rotational Band 5 Podiatrist, you will work across both Community and Acute Foot Health Services, developing a broad range of clinical skills and experience.

Your duties will include:

- Assessing, diagnosing and managing patients with a wide range of foot health conditions under the guidance of senior clinicians.
- Providing podiatric care to patients with diabetes, vascular disease, musculoskeletal conditions, wounds and other complex health needs.
- Participating in community clinics, home visits, hospital outpatient clinics and inpatient services.
- Working as part of multidisciplinary teams including diabetology, vascular surgery, renal medicine, nursing and community healthcare services.
- Supporting specialist services including wound care, nail surgery, biomechanics, offloading and casting.
- Participating in diabetic foot MDTs and contributing to the management of patients with complex and high-risk foot conditions.
- Maintaining accurate clinical records and contributing to service audits, quality improvement initiatives and clinical governance activities.
- Receiving structured supervision, mentorship and professional development to support progression through the rotational programme.

The role requires flexibility to work across a range of community and hospital settings throughout Lambeth, Southwark and Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.

The role has been specifically designed to provide broad clinical exposure and accelerated professional development for Band 5 podiatrists. The post holder will assess, diagnose, treat and manage patients with a wide variety of podiatric conditions whilst working alongside specialist clinicians and multidisciplinary teams.

The rotational programme will provide experience across:

- Domiciliary (home visit) services.
- Diabetic foot screening and management.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience of working with a range of patient and disease/pathology types including the at risk and high risk foot
- Experience of using initiative and assertiveness
- Experience of Foot health education
- Experience of undertaking new patient assessments

**Desirable**

- Experience of nail surgery
- Experience of Biomecahnics

- Diploma/Degree in Podiatric Medicine with certificate in local anaesthesia
