### Job overview

We are looking for a PICU Orderly / Ward Assistant to join our Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. We are a 31 bedded unit with a friendly, dedicated and experienced team delivering paediatric and cardiac intensive care (PIC / CIC).

Our PICU department is the Lead Centre for Paediatric Intensive Care services for the West Midlands. We care for critically ill children from a wide range of specialties including cardiac, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), liver, medical, oncology, renal, surgery, neuro and trauma.

As an Orderly, you will play a key role in maintaining a safe, clean and well organised environment within PICU. You will support the day to day running of the department through housekeeping duties, pharmacy support and stock control of medical gases. Orderlies work in line with COSHH regulations, with full training provided.

Working closely with the multidisciplinary team, the Orderly supports effective patient flow across ward areas and assists with equipment management alongside the PICU Technical Team.

This role is also an important part of medication safety within PICU, supporting nursing staff with the safe stock management of medications in line with national guidance. Our staff work closely with children and their families during some of the most important moments of their lives.
